Cumulative fatigue life consumed
The cumulative fatigue life consumed being less than 1, the design is safe from fatigue
considerations.
Edge
warping stress = = 0.664 kg/cm2
Corner stress is not critical in a dowelled pavement. The corner stress can be
calculated value from the following formula:
Corner Stress:
The 98 percentile axle load is 14 tonnes. The wheel load, therefore, is 8 tonnes.
Radius of relative stiffness, I =
k = 6.2 kg/cm3
Tyre pressure = 7.2 kg/cm2
I=
= 61.08.
a = radius of area of contact of wheel.
Considering a single axle dual wheel,
a = [0.8521 x + () 0.5]0.5
a = [0.8521 x + () 0.5]0.5
= 27.66 cm.
Corner Stress =
= 39.02 kg/cm2< 45 kg/cm2.
The corner stress is less than the flexural strength of the concrete, i.e., 45
kg/cm2& the pavement thickness of 15 cm assumed is safe.
