Short summary
• Flow of two immiscible liquids of
different densities and viscosities in a
square duct at three dimensional
spaces to know the fluids
characteristics and also to
investigate the effects of channel
inclination, viscosities, and density
contrasts.

Cont.…
• Sahu et al.(9,10) studied the
pressure-driven flow of two miscible
liquids of different densities and
viscosities in an inclined channel.
They investigated the effects of
Reynolds number, Schmidt number,
Froude number, and angle of
inclination.

Cont.…
 Immiscible system are expensive
computationally, due to the
interfacial dynamics , which happen
in Avery narrow region .
 The instabilities in immiscible system
have been studied mainly in core
annular/three-layer/ two layer
configuration

Cont.…
 Different researchers are studied on
this idea one the researchers
considering a two –layer
couette/Poiseuille flow ,Yih(24 ) was
the first to show that long waves on a
viscosity interface can be un stable
at any Reynolds number.

Cont..
 In the present work, we study the
three-dimensional pressure-driven
displacement flow of two immiscible
liquids of different densities and
viscosities in a square duct using a
multiphase lattice Boltzmann
method.

Cont..
• To study the displacement flow of
two immiscible liquids of different
densities and viscosities in a square
duct at three dimensional space
there are four distinctly different
lattice Boltzmann method
approaches

Cont..
These are ;
the color segregation method
the method Shan and Chan(30)
the free energy approach of Swift et
al.(31)
 the method of He and Co-workers.

Cont.…
• Due to the low characteristics
Reynolds number considered. These
studies did not observe any
interfacial instability.

Cont..
• But the recently method that is going
to be used will be the phase lattice
Boltzmann method (LBM) previously
proposed by He and coworkers (32)
and used in recent study of sahu and
vanka(41).Three-dimensional 15 –
velocity lattice model (D3Q15).
• this method helps to achieve high
computational efficiency.

Cont..

Cont..
•
• At t=0, the liquid the channel are
stationary when fully developed flow
due to a pressure gradient is
imposed at the inlet .this is given by

Cont..
• The flow dynamics are due to the
competition between the imposed pressure
gradient and the gravity force.
• Also we observed the effects angle of
inclination on the gravitational force for
smaller angle of inclination,
• The gravitational force in the negative ydirection is stronger, which tries to settle
the heavier fluid in the bottom part of the
channel.

Cont..
• It can be observed that 3D effects
reduce the short-wave instabilities,
which are apparent in the2D channel
at later time.
• The viscosity ratio is decreased, the
interfacial instabilities reduced
significantly 2D channel at later time.
