This festival is marked as the end of Ramadan that is one month of fasting .When Hari Raya Puasa is Celebrating  Hari Raya Puasa means "Day of Celebration" is an important religious festival celebrated by the Muslims in Singapore and Malaysia.

It marks the end of the fasting month of ramadan . . The day calls for a complete devotion to ALLAH. It is a time of forgiveness within the muslim community and a time for strengthening of bonds amongst relatives and friends.Importance of this Festival Hari raya puasa is not just wearing new clothes it is a deeper meaning.

.History of the Festival •Hari Raya is a very important occasion that is celebrated by Muslims all over the world.’ Many mistake Hari Raya Puasa for the Muslim New Year but it is not. What is Ramadan? Ramadan is the name of the one-month fasting period when Muslims fast for a period of almost 12 hours. The words ‘Hari Raya’ mean ‘day of celebration. It is also known as the festival that marks the end of one month of fasting. They fast from dawn till sunset.

Only the sick are excused from fasting during this month. breaking promise or cheating during the month of Ramadan. Muslims are expected to avoid lying. apart from eating and drinking Muslims are also forbidden from smoking.It is a known fact that during the period of fasting. the holy one. The primary purpose of fasting during Ramadan is to remind all Muslims of self-control and submitting to Allah. Even young kids are taught to fast when they are young .History of the Festival •.

The date for the start of any lunar Hijri month varies based on the observation of new moon by local religious authorities. falls on the first day of the month of Shawwal. therefore. so the exact day of celebration varies by locality. The day of Eid. 01/03/17 .How are the celebration • The holiday celebrates the conclusion of the 29 or 30 days of dawn-to-sunset fasting during the entire  month of Ramadan.

the hedges too must be cut in horizontal and even the tembok and the pavement leading to the entrance of the house must be washed.Preparation • ONE WEEK BEFORE THE END OF RAMADAN. the grass must be mowed. Even the compound need to be cleaned. . Clothes whic h are common to women are the baju kurung and kebaya shirts. Each year various fashions introduced to diversify the design of coats of this tradition. people from other race also wear it during Eidul Fitri.  Even this is a Malay traditional clothes. This will add the atmosphere of Eidul Fitri.Traditional Cloths Eidul Fitri will not be fun without a new clothes. This dress comes with a songkok and songket in waist circumference. Baju Melayu is a traditional clothes for Malay and it's wear by Malay man.

the male costume is simply referred to as Baju Melayu while the female costume is normally referred to as the Baju Kurung. . are the Baju Kurung Teluk Belanga and the Baju Kurung Cekak Musang.Specifically. the traditional Malay costumes for both men and women in Malaysia. But to differentiate between the male and female attire.Traditional clothes Baju Melayu ("Malay dress or attire") is the general term for the traditional Malay costume for men.

They would have specialties such as beef rendang (a spicy dish of beef that is like a dry curry). .Foods for Hari Raya Puasa On this day Muslims in Singapore have a lavish spread of food on their dining table.

Preparing these ‘daun ketupat’ is known among Malays as ‘anyam’ and mostly done by the womenfolk. The ‘daun ketupat’ (containers made of young coconut leaves) would be prepared and their numbers according to their anticipated number of guests. 01/03/17 .Preparation • THREE DAYS BEFORE THE END OF RAMADAN • Most Johoreans of my time opted for the ‘ketupat’ and ‘lodeh’ which is quite similar to the ‘lontong’. They had better skill compared to the menfolk. Those having no knowledge in preparing the ‘daun ketupat’ would placed their orders from those with the skill.
