Inhalation(also known asinspiration) is the flow of
air into an organism. It is a vital process for all
human life. In humans it is the movement of air
from the external environment, through the
airways, and into thealveoli.
Inhalation begins with the contraction of the
muscles attached to the rib cage; this causes
an expansion in the chest cavity.
Then takes place the onset of contraction of the
diaphragm, which results in expansion of
theintrapleural space and an increase in
negative pressure. The higher air pressure in
the atmosphere will force air into the lungs.
During inhalation, the diaphragm contracts and
flattens out.
Besides that, the intercostals muscles contracts.
The ribcage will move upwards and outwards.
During inhalation, air is taken into the lungs
through the nasal cavity, passing through the
trachea, bronchi, bronchioles and finally the
alveoli.
When the plastic sheet is pulled, the air pressure
in the container decreases.
The higher air pressure in the atmosphere then
forces air to enter the container, causing the
balloon to expand.
The process of breathing out
carbon dioxide from the body.
Alveolus Bronchiole

Trachea Bronchus

Nasal Cavity
When the plastic bag is pushed up, the volume
of the container decreases.
This increases the air pressure in the balloons.
The gas in the balloon is then forced out into the
atmosphere and the balloons will become
flattened.
