Political alliances in

Sabah and Sarawak


In Sabah and Sarawak there are many political parties
representing their respective ethnic groups, especially the
formation of Malaysia.

Sabah and Sarawak politics is more complex than in


penisula.

Such a combination is essential to guarantee stability and


ensure that the voices of all ethnic groups represented.
Political Alliances in
Sabah
In Sabah, there is no dominant group in terms of population size.

Political developments in Sabah and Sarawak showed a similar


pattern.

Taking inspiration from the model of the UMNO-MCA-MIC, UNKO,


USNO and the SCA in Sabah joined to form the Alliance.

After the 1967 state election, the Sabah Alliance consists of


USNO and the SCA after UPKO dissolved and the majority of its
members joined the USNO.
Political Alliances in Sabah

Parti Berjaya Sabah who ruled from 1976 to 1985 is a multi-


ethnic party staffed by indigenous Muslims and non-Muslims
which was established in July 1975, although its leadership is
monopolized by the Muslim bumiputera.

state and the central government.

PBS is a multi-ethnic party monopolized by non-Muslim


Bumiputeras in terms of leadership.
