ENERGY POWER POINT !

Geothermal
- Geothermal simply
relates to the internal
heat of the earth

-Geothermal energy is generally considered environmentally friendly and does not cause signifcant

amounts of pollution . -Geothermal reservoirs are naturally replenished and therefore

renewable .
It is renewable.
hot water and steam from beneath the Earth's surface - can be accessed either directly, through a pump
or from a geothermal power plant
-Direct use involves the application of hot water to heat or cool buildings
- Natural features such as hot springs, mud pools, sinter terraces, geysers, fumaroles (steam vents) and steaming
ground can be easily, and irreparably, damaged by geothermal development
- Geothermal energy has been used for thousands of years in some countries for cooking and heating.
- It is simply power derived from the Earth's internal heat
HYDROPOWER
hydroelectric power

1. Once a dam is constructed, electricity can be produced at a constant

rate.
2. If electricity is not needed, the sluice gates can be shut, stopping
electricity generation. The water can be saved for use another time when
electricity demand is high.
1. Dams are extremely expensive to build and must be built to a very high
standard.
2. The high cost of dam construction means that they must operate for
many decades to become proftable.
Hydropower is a renewable source.
We get hydropower from dams , that are man made.
NATURAL GAS- flammable gas, consisting
largely of methane and other hydrocarbons

Its non renewable

natural gas is composed of methane and produces very low
carbon emissions, approximately 70% less carbon dioxide than
other fuels
natural gas doesnt leave behind smoke, ash or any smell.
although natural gas burns extremely cleanly it is also a non
renewable resource.
while many people prefer gas for this very reason, gas is
combustible and explosive and can be extremely dangerous if
handled improperly.
Petroleum - a liquid mixture of hydrocarbons that is
present in certain rock strata and can be extracted
and refned to produce fuels including gasoline,
kerosene,
1.Highly compact portable source of and
energydiesel
used for most forms of
mechanical transportation.
2.Excellent source of organic molecules for building plastics, medicines,
rubber, fber, etc.
1.Oil is a carbon based fuel and the primary way it is used is to burn it,
releasing more than its weight in CO2 because of the added oxygen. CO2 is a
greenhouse gas and is expected by most scientists to be a cause of global
warming.
2.We are running out. Estimates vary from 50 to 150 years before we run
out of oil. This is impossible to predict, but most major oil companies have
been failing to discover new reserves equal to the amount of oil they are
producing for the last few years.
Petroleum is nonrenewable.
DETERGENT All soap less detergents used to wash clothes and dishes are
derived from the petrochemical glycerin.
PLASTICS All plastic, unless it is bio plastic, is made from petrochemicals.
Every product made from or containing plastic is a product that exists only
through the distillation of petroleum
Petroleum accounts for about 40% of the primary energy used in the world
today.
The Middle East leads petroleum exports, accounting for almost 30% of the
world's production and almost 45% of the total export.
Solar-of, relating to, or determined by the sun.
1. Solar energy is free although there is a cost in the building of collectors and
other equipment required to convert solar energy into electricity or hot water.
2. Solar energy does not cause pollution. However, solar collectors and other
associated equipment / machines are manufactured in factories that in turn
cause some pollution.
1. Solar energy can only be harnessed when it is daytime and sunny.
2. Solar collectors, panels and cells are relatively expensive to manufacture
although prices are falling rapidly.
Renewable since the sun is not due to go out for at least 4 billion years.
We get solar energy from the sun
No effect on environment cause were using it for energy not doing anything to
it.
Solar power is one of very few sources of energy that are completely free.
On Earth we are especially lucky; the sun is in the top 5% of stars in the Milky
Way in terms of brightness and size.

Uranium- the chemical element of atomic number 92, a gray,

dense radioactive metal used as a fuel in nuclear reactors .

1. Uranium is an alternative to fossil fuels, especially for countries
without reserves of coal, petrol, methane.
2. Uranium don't contribute to global warming.
1. Uranium is a possible polluting agent of the natural environment.
2. Uranium is a toxic and radioactive chemical element
Open pit mining, also known as strip mining, is the removal of
surfcial soils and uneconomic rock to get at the ore below. Ore
grades are normally less than 0.5%. This is type of mining is only
possible if the uranium ore is near the surface.
Uranium's main use as you probably know already is nuclear power.
Uranium is nonrenewable.
Pure uranium is a silvery-white metal.
The atomic number of uranium is 92
WIND-the perceptible natural movement of the air, esp. in the form of a current

of air blowing from a particular direction .

Renewable
1. The wind is free and with modern technology it can be captured efficiently.
2. Once the wind turbine is built the energy it produces does not cause green
house gases or other pollutants.
1. The strength of the wind is not constant and it varies from zero to storm
force. This means that wind turbines do not produce the same amount of
electricity all the time. There will be times when they produce no electricity at
all.
2. Many people feel that the countryside should be left untouched, without
these large structures being built. The landscape should left in its natural form
for everyone to enjoy.
We have wind mills so we can have energy and water.
Its located in the atmosphere.
Maybe some erosion.
1. Between 2008 and 2012, wind power has provided 36.5% of all new
generating capacity in the United States.
2. Wind mills have been in use since 2000 B.C. and were frst developed in
China and Persia.
Ways to conserve fossil
fuels.
1.use low-energy light bulbs and turn off lights when not in use
2.wash clothes at 30 degrees
3.recycle household waste e.g. paper, glass, food, plastic bags
and aluminum
4.minimise unnecessary travel e.g. work from or near home if
possible, car share, walk or bike
5.turn off electrical appliances at the switch instead of leaving
them on stand-by
6.buy and use economic cars
7.eat locally grown food
8.eat food that that doesnt require high energy inputs e.g.
beans, legumes and white meat as opposed to red meat and
processed food
