OVERVIEW
As with the web server service of IIS, the FTP service can be u
sed on the public Internet or for your private intranet.
Hosting an FTP site on your IIS server can provide the users o
n your network with either files that they need or a place to st

Supplying a repository of downloadable files might be import
ant as a service that you provide to public web users.
The FTP service of IIS can be added when you install the Web
Server (IIS) role.
To add FTP service to an existing server configured for IIS, use
the Add Roles Wizard, which can be started via the Server Ma
nager. In the Add Role Services window, click the FTP Server c

To create a FTP site, select the Sites node in the Connections p
ane of the Server Manager after selecting the IIS Manger node.
Then, click the Add FTP Site in the Actions pane.
Then, enter a unique, friendly name for the site. In the Physical
Path box, type the path where you want to store the site conte

In the Binding area, set the IP address, and the port. Select an
IP address for the site in the drop-down list or type one.

Select the type of Authentication supported by the FTP
site, and what users are allowed to access the site with
either Read and/or Write permissions.

You are provided with a set of icons in the Details pane. This i
s the default Features View, which provides a task-based syste
m for configuring specific settings required for a particular FT

The settings available for a FTP site range from authentication
to directory browsing to the SSL settings for HTTPS protocol.
Some of these settings are quite straightforward and are basi
cally enabled by default.
To access a settings page, double-click the icon in the Features

View.
All the settings in relation to a specific FTP site can also be set
at the server level. Then, the settings are inherited by each FT
P site on the server. To do this, click the server name in the Co 12
nnections pane and then use the FTP icons similarly.

You can use Windows Explorer to quickly populate a FT
P site with files.

The Read permission gives the users the capability to d

If you also want to enable users to upload files to the F
TP site using their web browser or an FTP client, you m
