Why should we as educators care about leadership?
´Leadership is communicating people·s worth and potential so clearly that they are inspired to see it in themselves.µ Is that not also the essence of good teaching?

Success Factors at the School Level
Belief in the value and potential of each child and of each educator Commitment to the development of character and life skills Alignment of school vision, mission, values, and strategies Communication of school commitment to leadership principles Modeling ³the right choices´
´ You will hear us compliment the children all the time. You will hear us thank them. We tell them we love them every single day, and how much we appreciate them. We have nine hundred students and it is important to us that we connect with each of them every day«That is part of our core value system here. We let children know we believe in them.µ Muriel Summers, Principal, A.B. Combs Elementary School

IIE Service-Learning Experience
Service-learning is an integral component of the YELLA Program. It is the practical application of the knowledge, skills, and attitudes that are emphasized in the Program. It is introduced in lesson 1 and the last hour of each lesson is dedicated to service-learning related activities and assignments. Our experience with service-learning in Egyptian schools and universities has been very encouraging. Our assessments have shown that students have gained valuable life skills through service-learning work including: ² A sense of self and values ² How to work in teams ² Consensus building and problem solving ² Time management ² Responsibility ² A sense of community ² COMPASSION and EMPATHY

"Service-Learning goes beyond charity or volunteerism. It encourages those involved in service to ask the hard questions and search for real solutions. Service-Learning programs explicitly include features which foster participants' learning about the larger social issues behind the human needs to which they are responding".

The Ripple Effect Your behavior influences others through a ripple effect. A ripple effect works because everyone influences everyone else. Powerful people are powerful influences. If your life works, you influence your family, If your family works, your family influences the community. If your community works, your community influences the nation. If your nation works, your nation influences the world. If your world works, the ripple effect spreads throughout the cosmos. Remember that your influence begins with you and ripples outward. So be sure that your influence is both potent and wholesome.
