12ãhe body is a unit, though it is
made up of many parts; and though
all its parts are many, they form

were all baptized by one Spirit into

Ȅwhether Jews or
Greeks, slave or freeȄand we were
all given the one Spirit to drink.

one part but of many. If the foot
should say, "Because I am not a
hand, I do not belong to the body,"
it would not for that reason cease to
be part of the body. 16And if the ear
should say, "Because I am not an
eye, I do not belong to the body," it

would not for that reason cease to

be part of the body. If the whole
body were an eye, where would the
sense of hearing be? If the whole
body were an ear, where would the
sense of smell be? 18But in fact

,
every one of them, just as he wanted

them to be. 19If they were all one
part, where would the body be? As 20

it is, @ @

hand, "I don't need you!" And the
head cannot say to the feet, "I don't
need you!" 22On the contrary, those
parts of the body that seem to be

weaker are indispensable, 23and the
parts that we think are less
honorable we treat with special
honor. And the parts that are un-
presentable are treated with special
modesty, 24while our presentable
parts need no special treatment. But

part suffers with it; if one part is
honored, every part rejoices with it.

     @ @ And in
the church God has appointed first
of all apostles, second prophets,
third teachers, then workers of
miracles, also those having gifts of
healing, those able to help others,
those with gifts of administration,

and those speaking in different kinds

of tongues. Are all apostles? Are all
prophets? Are all teachers? Do all
30
work miracles? Do all have gifts of
healing? Do all speak in tongues? Do
all interpret? 31But eagerly desire the
greater gifts. And now I will show
you the most excellent way.

12:4-8
4 Just as our bodies have many parts
and
5

, so it is with Christǯs body.
We are many parts of one body, and
we all belong to each other.
6 In his grace,

  for doing certain

things well. So if God has given you
ë
12:4-8 (

the ability to prophesy, speak out
with as much faith as God has given
7
you. If your gift is serving others,
serve them well. If you are a teacher,
teach well. 8 If your gift is to
encourage others, be encouraging. If
it is giving, give generously. If God
has given you leadership ability, take
ë
12:4-8 (

the responsibility seriously. And if
you have a gift for showing kindness
to others, do it gladly.

Instead, we will speak the truth in love,
growing in every way more and more
like Christ, who is the Head of His Body,
the church. He makes the whole body fit
together perfectly. As each part does its
own special work, it helps the other
parts grow, so that the whole body is
healthy and growing and full of love.
