Identification of presence of brain

tumors in MRI images using image

enhancement technique
Introduction
MRI noninvasive medical imaging technique
Helps to visualize detailed internal structure of
the body
Tumor region is characterized by necrotic
region, active region, and edema
These regions are distinguished by contrast
and texture
Hence, contrast and texture can be made a
basis for tumor classification

Objectives
MRI image enhancement using histogram
equalization
Image segmentation using clustering
algorithm
Feature extraction using texture features
Dimension reduction using principal
component analysis
Classification using support vector machine
Proposed methodology
LBP feature
Efficient feature descriptor that gives us
information about the texture of an image (or
part of an image).
Texture is defined as the degree of roughness
or degree of smoothness.
Image should be partitioned into blocks.
Our input image is 100 x 100 pixels.
Each block is 10 x 10 pixels.
Histogram
Feature extraction LBP
Expected outcomes
Contrast enhancement module (preprocessed
images used)
Image segmentation module (done)
Feature extraction module (done)
Dimension reduction module
SVM based classifier
