Philippines associated with the industrys continuous research and development. The National Apiculture
Research and Development (NARTDI) and UPLB Bee Program are the two leading government organizations
involved in the development of beekeeping in the Philippines. In support to these lead agencies, SUCs are also
involved in the conduct of research and development. These are the following:

Benguet State University

Camarines Sur State Agriculture College
Cavite State University
Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University
Mariano Marcos State University
Philippine Normal University
Saint Louis University
University of the Philippines Los Banos
In Cagayan Valley, three (3) state college and universities are involved in beekeeping, these are the Isabela State
University the Provincial Apiculture Center of Isabela, the Cagayan State University Regional Apiculture Center

IMPACT TO INNOVATION AND TECHNOLOGY
Continuous innovation is vital to a company
success because innovation could create great
shifts in market shares. In beekeeping industry,
one of the increasing popularity in terms of
innovation is the creation of sites beside the bee
farms. This innovation was adopted by Bohol Bee
Farm, on which they created a restaurant and
hotel plus numbers of activities there.
IMPACT TO THE ECONOMY
1. TO ENVIRONMENT
Beekeeping or honeybee culture is very much
compatible to agriculture not only in the
pollination of cross-pollinated crops but also
for self-pollinated as well. It is an environment
friendly enterprise with nutritious and
medicinal products that are compatible to all
types of farming systems being practiced by
most farmers. It is viable and ecologically
sound community enterprise which is suitable
in maximizing labor resources of both women
and youth sector in the rural areas.
Pollination of crops using bees results in
increased crop yield
Enhancement of biodiversity
Bees are the main pollinators of local timber as
well as other forest species
Bees are responsible for seed formation of wild
bananas, fruit trees and of vines
2. JOB OPPORTUNITIES
One of the benefits of the industry is the generation of
employment both local and foreign. Job generation is derived from the
equipment fabrication and carpentry. In beekeeping, skilled and semi-
skilled are required in processing bee products. Other aspect of the
industry may involve employment for out of school youth, women and
other sectors. Skilled apiaries have the opportunities to work in apiaries
abroad because foreign countries preferred Filipino workers because of
work attitudes and expertise in the field of beekeeping.
The 2010 data shows that in the Philippines, projected
employment opportunities in the bee industry is 100% success rate or
over 40,000 total direct and indirect jobs was generated.

apiaries is limited but not only to
taxation and regulation. As per
regulation, The Bureau of Agriculture
and Fisheries issued a Philippine
National Standard titled Code of
Good Beekeeping Practices with
which commercial or backyard
apiaries must comply. It sets out the
general principles of good practice
and minimum requirements in the
commercial or backyard apiaries or
meliponiaries and in wild honey
hunting intended for the production
of honey, royal jelly, beeswax, pollen,
and propolis which applies to all
species of bees.
