WHAT IS A NORDIC VARSITY TEAM?
It is a schools umbrella for an unlimited number of teams in any
given category: Jr Girls, Jr Boys, Sr Girls, Sr Boys,
Juniors born 2002-2003, Seniors born 1999-2001
Athletes compete as individuals if less than 4 in their
category or insufficient extras to make a 2nd team
Club skiers race in the open division.
Non-club in the high school division.

Back field whenever theres enough snow.

TRAIL PRACTICES
Sunday January 7 and 21,
at Hardwood
1-4 p.m.
Athletes/Parents car-pool. Text Ms. Moreau and report to front desk on arrival. This is
an informal opportunity to ski. It will count as a high school practice if a teacher
attends. It will be a fun, rewarding, social opportunity whether or not it
counts as a practice.

Ms Moreau may be going to the Midland Loppet


the morning of Jan 7, prior to the practice.
Students are welcome to do this too!

Meet 1 p.m. at wax hut to wax skis. Guided practice 2-3. Distance on trails 3-4
TRAINING-COMPETITION
DAYS at Hardwood

Transportation by school bus.


Depart King City S.S. 8 a.m.
Arrive King City 4 p.m.
TRAINING DAY TYPICAL AGENDA
This workshop is for all teams. Purpose: to learn proper skate skiing technique and be
introduced to the race aspect of the sport.
9am Arrival Welcome to group, tickets and rentals will be distributed
9:30-11 On snow skate clinic - Instructors will teach various skate techniques to the
students. Focus: free skate and various poling techniques; introduction to race
protocol.
11:15-12 Free ski time Skiers work on their ski technique on trails with their team.
12-12:45 Lunch
12:45-1:15 Games and drills to enhance balance and agility. Staff will lead the
students in a variety of activities that will help the skiers with their skills. This will also
be the warm up for the practice race.
1:15 Practice race skiers and coaches participate in a mini race to put everything
that they have learned together
WEEKEND RACE: Mono Invitational
This is optional. Good practice, good company,
good fun! It will count as a school practice if a
teacher is present. Worthwhile either way! Ms.
Moreau will support athletes who participate. Lots
of high school students do this one.

Sun Feb 4: Ski Parc Gatineau; Travel
Travel and room with parents; stay in downtown Ottawa, walking distance to canal
and market

Individual Races: (separate club and non-club skiers)


All categories 30-sec interval starts. Slowest to fastest skiers out.
Team Relays: (combine club and non-club skiers)
Top 4 racers from each team of each school.
OFSAA Qualifiers:
1st place team (4-5 skiers) in each category except novice + 1st place
combined sr, 1st place combined jr, 2nd place if no combined, + top 6
individuals not on a qualifying team who place in top 10 in their
respective categories.

TEAM SUPPLIES
Wax - yellow, pink, blue, green Nylon brush - one for 4-5 athletes
Scrapers - base and groove Disposable shop towels
Wax iron - one for 4-5 athletes Container

Polishing brush, riller, scraper sharpener, apron, wax horse,


human-powered groomer, roller skis!
Maintenance & repairs or replacement due to use or wear & tear

Supplies are included in season fee.


CLOTHING & ACCESSORIES
Team-Wear: Jerseys, Hats, Windbreakers

Necessities: moisture-wicking long underwear and socks, sport


bra (f), windbreaker undershorts (m) or duct tape, tights ($20 at
Winners), jersey, waterproof mitts, hat/buff, windbreaker jacket
& pants, sunglasses,wrist watch, water bottle holder
Label skis, boots, poles, bag with your name
to prevent mixing them up with other skiers
EQUIPMENT

Skis: Wax them at every possible opportunity.
Protect the bases by holding them together
CARE
with ski ties. Dont lose your ties. Keep them
in your pocket or bag when skiing.
Poles: Protect them with pipe wrap during
travel.
Boots: take out the insoles when you get home
so they can air out and not smell.
Bag: Keep your skis & poles in a ski sleeve
for easy transport and to protect them in transit
Jersey: Wash only when necessary, inside-out
by hand (machine hand-wash cycle is fine),
hang to dry

and YRAA championships.
Parent/Athlete drivers for Sunday trail practices and team socials
FINANCES
Season fee = $194 includes supplies + 2 YRAA training-competition days +
+ Mayfield Invitational + YRAA championships + busing to 4 events
+ school cash online fee.
Payable by school cash online.
Payment deadline December 1.
Season fee if renting equipment = $270 includes all of the above, but cannot ski at
school on-snow practices.

Hardwood trail passes = $13 per full day if purchased from Ms. Moreaus coach
booklet, or $20/half day if purchased directly from Hardwood. Rentals $45/half day.
Mono trail pass = free on Family Day. $5/day if skiing with Ms. Moreau. $10/day if
skiing without Ms. Moreau.
Ski Cross Clinic = $15 ($5 clinic + $10 trail pass)
Mono Nordic Invitational = TBA
