Compatibility of KIBO with GWs and Type PR
Overview

KIBO is a new Ricoh-native controller to cover

midlevel to low-end products.
1. Fulfill system compatibility with GW+ CTL by taking advantage of the PDL, API, and MIB in
GW+.
2. Available with Ricoh consolidated user operation performance (driver, panel, paper handling,
etc.)
3. Enable device monitoring and administration by using common tools (@Remote, UZ/Birdie).

Compatibility of KIBO with GWs and
Type PR

The following slides provide an overview of the

compatibility of the KIBO controller with the GW
controller in the connectivity and solution fields.
Higher compatibility with GW is an advantage
that KIBO has over its predecessors, such as the
Type PR controller.
We will compare GW, KIBO, and Type PR by using
the following models:
GW: Gim-P1/MF1 with the GW+(13S) controller
KIBO: Gim-P1/MF1 with the KIBO controller
Type PR: RN-P2/MF2
Compatibility: Printing Environment and
PDL

By using the same PCL and PS firmware as GW,

KIBO can support various types of printing
environments.

GW KIBO Type PR Notes

The supported DHCP options are different between GW, KIBO and Type PR.
These DHCP options are described later.
The IPv4 address leased from the DHCP server is saved on NVRAM and
DHCP
the saved IPv4 address is used when no DHCP server is found in the
network. This function is always enabled and cannot be disabled in the
case of KIBO.

KIBO does not support the Router option in DHCPv6 Mode. When the
Router option is selected, the DHCPv6 mode is determined according to
the Managed Address Configuration Flag (m-flag) and Other
Configuration Flag (o-flag) that is included in the RA (Router
Advertisement) advertised by the IPv6 router.
Type PR does not have a DHCPv6 Mode setting.
DHCPv6
DHCPv6 request timeout:
GW: 120 seconds
KIBO: 120 seconds
Type PR: 60 seconds
KIBO does not support the DHCP relay agent.
The IAID in Type PR has a fixed value of "0".

When the name resolution fails:

GW does not try to send a request to the next DNS server and
instead returns an error.
KIBO tries to send a request to the next DNS server and when all
DNS servers cannot resolve the request, KIBO returns an error.
Request timeouts:
DNS (Client) GW: 48 seconds
KIBO: 5 seconds for each DNS server (maximum 20 seconds)
Type PR: 20 seconds
Number of DNS servers:
GW: 6 (3 for IPv4 and 3 for IPv6)
KIBO: 4 (2 for IPv4 and 2 for IPv6)
Type PR: 4 (2 for IPv4 and 2 for IPv6)

DDNS KIBO does not support registering the CNAME to the DNS server.

Access Control

(IPv4/v6)
Compatibility: Network Protocol
Standard Options Not supported

GW KIBO Type PR Notes

Path MTU discovery is always enabled on KIBO.

Path MTU
KIBO and GW support Path MTU discovery for IPv4, and Type PR supports Path
discovery MTU discovery for IPv6.

Maximum number of simultaneous connections:

GW: 16 (8 for IPv4 and 8 for IPv6)
KIBO: 4
Type PR: 3
diprintd
Request timeouts:
GW: 300 seconds (can be changed by using a Telnet command)
KIBO: 15 seconds
Type PR: 60 seconds (follow the Network I/O Timeout setting)

KIBO supports Mac OS X 10.2.3 and later and does not support Windows clients.
KIBO does not support IPP, so it does not advertise the IPP service when

Bonjour browsing from the client.
MF models only KIBO does not support IPP, so it does not support AirPrint.
The Bonjour hostname can be changed on Type PR.

The KIBO controller does not support lprm.

Maximum number of simultaneous connections:
LPD/LPR GW: 10
KIBO: 8
Type PR: 3

Request timeouts:
GW: 10 seconds (connection timeout); 60 seconds (command response
timeout)
KIBO: 60 seconds
SMTP Authentication method
GW: DIGEST-MD5, CRAM-MD5, LOGIN, PLAIN
KIBO: DIGEST-MD5, CRAM-MD5, NTLM, LOGIN, PLAIN
Type PR: NTLM, LOGIN
KIBO and Type PR does not support SMTP over SSL/SMTP over TLS.

KIBO only supports POP before SMTP for SMTP authentication, but it does not
POP3
support mail receiving.

FTP
MF models only
Compatibility: Network Protocol
Standard Options Not supported

GW KIBO Type PR Notes

The KIBO controller does not support basic authentication when connecting to shared folders.
Authentication method:
GW: NTLMv2, NTLM, LANMAN, Basic
KIBO: NTLMv2, NTLM, LANMAN
Type PR: LANMAN, NTLM
The KIBO controller does not support WS-Discovery when browsing shared folders.
Name resolution methods
CIFS
GW: LLMNR, WINS, NBNS, DNS
KIBO:LLMNR, DNS, NBNS
Type PR: DNS, NBNS
When several IP addresses are resolved by using these method, the KIBO controller uses the
first IP address only to make a connection.
The KIBO controller and GW controller both support SMB1.0 and CIFS. Regarding KIBO, the
user can choose to not use SMB1.0 by setting NBT (Net BIOS over TCP/IP) to off.

Ports used for scanning:

GW:
514 for the first session
102465535 (one port is chosen randomly) for the second session
TWAIN KIBO:
514 for first session
808 for second session
Type PR:
53550

The used ports:

GW: 80, 443, 7443 (NRS port), 7444 (NRS rescue port)
HTTPS
KIBO: 80, 443
Type PR: 80
Compatibility: Network Protocol
Standard Options Not supported

GW KIBO Type PR Notes

Because KIBO does not support the IPP printing service, its SSL does not
provide a secure IPP connection.
SSL Supported SSL versions:
GW: SSL3.0, TLS1.0, TLS1.1, and TLS1.2
KIBO: SSL3.0 and TLS1.0

LLTD

GW supports IPX when a NetWare module is installed on the device.

Supported protocols:
GW/KIBO: SNMPv1, SNMPv2c
SNMPv1
Type PR: SNMPv1
SNMPv2
Supported commands:
GW/KIBO: Get, Get-Next, Set, Get-Bulk, TRAP
Type PR: Get, Get-Next, TRAP

SNMPv3

KIBO mainly uses the LDAP server to search the user accounts that are
used for the destination when sending scanned data. KIBO does not use
the LDAP server for user authentication.
LDAP LDAP authentication methods:
GW: Plain, Digest, Anonymous, and Kerberos
KIBO: Plain, Digest, and Anonymous
Type PR: Plain, CRAM-MD5, Anonymous
Compatibility: Network Protocol
Standard Options Not supported

GW KIBO Type PR Notes

KIBO does not support the Tunnel encapsulation mode.

KIBO supports the Unique option in the IPsec Requirement Level item list.
KIBO can specify the IPsec policy for each protocol, and Type PR and GW models
specify it for each IP address.
Type PR only supports the Pre-shared Key for IKEv1 authentication and does not
support digital certificates (RSA).
The following protocols can be set to bypass IPsec:
GW: HTTPS
KIBO: KIBO does not have a setting for protocols to bypass IPsec.
Type PR: DHCPv4, DHCPv6, SNMP, mDNS, NetBIOS, UDP Port 53550, ICMP
GW can exclude the HTTPS protocol from applying IPsec.
GW supports Security Level. By selecting it, the appropriate set of values for
IPsec communications are set automatically in the Security Details area:
Authentication Only
Authentication and Low Level Encryption
Authentication and High Level Encryption
