HISTORY OF WORLD INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

ORGANIZATION (WIPO)

 Established in July 14, 1967 at Stockholm, Sweden.

Originally from the Paris Convention and Berne Convention.

Formaly known as Bureaux Internationaux Reunis pour la


Protection de la Propiete Intellectuelle (United International
Bureaus for Protection of Intellectual Property)
MISSIONS
The mission of WIPO is to promote through international
cooperation the creation, dissemination, use and protection of works
of the human mind for the economic, cultural and social progress of
all mankind. Its effect is to contribute to a balance between the
stimulation of creativity worldwide, by sufficiently protecting the
moral and material interests of creators on the one hand, and
providing access to the socio-economic and cultural benefits of such
creativity worldwide on the other.

General Assembly
It composed of Member States which are also members of any of
the Unions.

Its main functions are (1) appointment of the Director General upon
the nomination by the Coordination Committee; (2) review and
approval of the reports of the Director General and the report and
activities of the Coordination Committee; and (3) adoption of the
biennial budget common to the Unions, and adoption of the financial
regulations of the Organization.

Coordination Committee
As an executive organ, it gives advice to the Director General
regarding the appointment of assistant Directors General.

Nominates a candidate for appointment to the post Director


General by the General Assembly.

Prepare the draft agenda of the General Assembly and the draft
agenda and program and budget of the Conference.

Examination of International Applications.

Investigate possible irregularities and responding to this


irregularities.
