Q-Comp: Past to Present

In 2014, Robbinsdale educators and school board

voted to participate in Q-Comp offered by the
MDE.
In 2016, we voted to continue participation in the
Q-Comp program.

This February we will have a reauthorization vote.

Q-Comp

Our plan is aligned to the following:

➢School Improvement Plans (SIPs)
➢Professional Learning Communities (PLCs)
➢Peer Observation Cycles

Our Q-Comp plan fulfills the requirements of the

Minnesota State Teacher Development and
Evaluation (TDE) Law passed in 2011.
Quick Review of
Robbinsdale Q-Comp
School Improvement Plans (SIPs)

➢Leadership teams wrote SIP goals over the summer.

➢A Q-Comp reading or math goal has been identified
for your building based on a nationally-normed
assessment (MCA).
➢These goals are part of the World’s Best Workforce
legislation.
Professional Learning Communities (PLCs)
Requirements
➢ Meetings are 50-60 minutes weekly on average.
➢ Complete a PLC Action Plan that contains an annual
SMART goal.
➢ Send PLC Action Plans to your administrator and the
Q-Comp Coordinator by November 3rd.
➢ SMART goal attainment will be reviewed and approved
by your administrator.
Educator Observation Cycle
Requirements

➢ Complete and implement a Professional Growth Plan

(PGP)
➢ Complete all steps of three Observation Cycles
(Pre-Conference, Observation, Post
Conference)
➢ Demonstrate proficiency as stated in rubric
➢ Attend and participate in weekly PLC
➢ Complete end of year Reflective Statement
Professional Growth Plan (PGP)
➢The PGP is an action plan for professional growth.
It does not need to be tied to a SMART goal or
assessment. Your goal must be:
○ Attached to new learning
○ Observed or discussed in each observation cycle
○ Documented
➢Your PGP needs to be approved by your primary peer
observer coach prior to your first observation.
Turn and Talk about what your PGP was last year and
what you might focus on for this year.
The Observation Cycle
The three observation cycles throughout the year consist
of three steps:

➢ Pre-Conference (30 minutes)

➢ Observation (45 minutes)
➢ Post Conference (30 minutes)

All three observation cycles require the Pre/Post

Conference form. This form must be completed and
shared with your peer observer coach 24 hours prior to
both the pre and post conferences.
Pre/Post Conference Form
➢The intent is to guide you through
planning and reflection.
➢The “Pre” section is for you to be
intentional about what your coach will
be observing.
➢The “Post” section is to help facilitate
thoughtful reflection on the observation,
thus encouraging your personal growth
as a professional.
Special Circumstances
Contact your primary coach if…
➢ You go on any sort of a leave this year (FMLA,
personal, etc.). More information is available on the
website.
○ The number of observations may change and your
stipend will be prorated based on the length of
your leave of absence
○ Your stipend will be prorated based on your ability
to participate in your PLC
➢ Your role, building, or FTE changes during the school
year.
➢ Your name changes.
YouCanBook.Me (our scheduling tool)
➢We will send an email about scheduling on September
12th.
➢The entire observation cycle should be scheduled
within a five-school-day period.
➢Schedule a minimum of 24 hours between the
observation and post conference.
➢Be mindful of school calendar: conferences, staff
meetings, PLC meetings, testing dates, holidays, etc.
➢Email your coach for last minute rescheduling.
Fall Observations

➢Cycle one will begin September 18th.

➢Please schedule as soon as possible to
ensure a multitude of scheduling choices.
➢Please record your dates and times in your
own calendar and save the confirmation
emails from YouCanBook.Me.

Rubric Domains
Domain 1: Planning
Domain 2: Environment
Domain 3: Delivery & Practice (Delivery of Service)
Domain 4: Professional Responsibilities
➢ Domain 3 will always be observed.
➢ You will choose one additional domain for peer
observations. (High Cycle observations with
administrators will include all 4 domains.)
➢ For Domain 1 or 4, list your artifacts to share with your
coach. A resource list of possible artifacts is available
on the website.
Reflective Statement

➢Under the Q-Comp plan every educator needs

to complete a Reflective Statement annually
that will be shared with your administrator.
➢This will be collected at your summary
conference in June.
➢This document can be used to renew your
teaching license.
High Cycle
➢ Administrators will communicate to you if you
are on High Cycle this year.
➢ During High Cycle, your first observation will
be an evaluation with an administrator. The
other two observations will be with your
primary coach.
➢ Administrators will observe all 4 domains
(unlike with peer observer coaches, who only
observe 2 domains at a time).
➢ Your reflective statement will need to be
completed by May 18th.
Probationary Educator Information
➢ Eligible for all Q-Comp stipends by completing
the previously stated requirements.
➢ Your three observations are coordinated with
your principal.
➢ All four domains will be observed in each
observation cycle.
➢ The proficiency scoring is progressive, based on
the year of probation.
