This is the subsequent knowledge that students will know previous to Grade 8.
What are my students supposed to learn?
Students will assume responsibility to lead an active way of life:

- Students will learn that living a healthy lifestyle will elongate their life

- Increased participation will result in more enjoyment of the activity

- Participation in physical education will increase skill set and knowledge base

- Students will learn that physical education is feasible in their everyday life

Pre-Assessment for Differentiation Teaching
Students will fill out an entrance slip at the beginning of the unit to indicate to the teacher what kinds of
physical activity they participate in, and to what extent.

ENTRANCE SLIP

1. What kinds of physical activity do you participate in outside of school?


Ex. volleyball, hiking, swimming, biking, etc.
1. What is your favourite thing about physical education?
2. What is your least favourite thing about physical education?
3. What is your favourite form of transportation?
Ex. biking, running, walking, driving
Formative Assessment
Assessment FOR Learning:

- Fist to Five:
- Students will represent their understanding and
level of participation by showing on a scale from
0-5 (their hand) their effort level.
- After playing volleyball, ask students to rate their
effort using Fist to Five.
Assessment AS Learning:

- Pass-Hit-Coach:
- Peer evaluation of a performance
- During volleyball practice, one student is throwing the ball, one is
passing, and one is coaching and giving feedback to the student
passing. After the student receives their feedback, the students
switch roles and so on.
Summative Assessment - Assessment Task

- Daily Journal
- Students will record effort, participation and their quality of
skill each day throughout the unit.
- Self-reflection will occur
- Students will be graded on effort, participation, and quality of
skill at the end of the unit according to individual daily scores
of improvement

Potential Differentiation
Students can choose from multiple forms of assessment at end of the unit:

- Wellness Goals/ Fitness plan assignment


- Student will list their goals at the beginning of the unit and track throughout.
- Journal Activity
- Students will prove improvement of participation, effort and skill through a self reflective journal
at the end of the unit.
- Skills Test
- Students will perform their skills through demonstration at the end of the unit.
- Skills Analysis Video Assignment
- At the beginning of the unit students will record a video of their skills as learned in class and
compare their improved skills set with another video recorded at the end of the unit.
- Student will then analyze and compare their movement, form, and position.
