Part 2 will lastly include 4 slides about Shakespeare’s experience in the theaters
Early life
Shakespeare was born on April 23, 1564, and he had 2 younger sisters who did not
survive the birth and he had 2 older and 3 younger brothers. Shakespeare was the
longest lasting sibling out of all of them. Later he became a leather worker, and
then got married to Anne Hathaway. After all of this Shakespeare started writing.
This was the start of Shakespeare’s career.
Marriage and Children
Shakespeare was married to Anne Hathaway when he was 18 and she was 26.
When they first got married they had a child named Savanna. Later in 1585
Shakespeare and his wife had twins named Hamnet and Judith. By 1596 Hamnet
died at age 11. His eldest daughter, Savanna had married a doctor in Stratford and
had a baby named Elizabeth. Shakespeare’s other daughter, Judith got married in
1616 to a Stratford Vintner. This happened a few months before Shakespeare’s
death.
London Theater
In 1585 Shakespeare moved from Stanford to London. In London Shakespeare
started to write poems and plays. In London he had many jobs, He was an actor, a
playwright, and a business partner in an major acting company called, “Lord
Chamberlain's Men”. In 1603 the company was renamed to “King’s Men”.
Final Years
Shakespeare’s partnership with the “Lord Chamberlain's Men” led to great wealth.
This wealth allowed Shakespeare to buy the second biggest house in Stanford.
After Shakespeare’s retirement he died 1616 on his birthday from an unknown
cause.
Career- Playhouses and the Globe
In 1576, James Burbage created a theater by the edge of London. This Occured
when Shakespeare was 12 years old. Later the theater called, “Lord Chamberlain's
Men” was built. This was built in 1594, and this was the theater that Shakespeare
had a partnership with. In 1599 Shakespeare opened up his theater called, “The
Globe”. This theater was later burned down 1613, but the quickly rebuilt in 1614.
Career- Theaters and palaces
The most successful theaters and palaces were indoor. These indoor theaters are
the best because they are year round open because there will be no weather
problems. The unpredictable weather caused problems for the outdoor theaters.
The problem with “The Globe” is that it is only open when the weather is right.

Career- Actors, Costumes, and Staging

On stage Shakespeare was great at many things. Women were played by young
boys or young men. Costumes were not aimed to be historically correct, but it was
aimed to be a stereotypical cliche outfit according to the play’s setting. During the
plays there were little amounts of props.
Career- Audience experiences
During the plays the audience would drink wine or ale and snacks in a large variety.
It would cost a penny to watch the play standing in the courtyard, but it would cost
2 pennies to sit up in the balcony.
Stage and screen after Shakespeare
After the time of Shakespeare, in 1642 the English plays were shut down because
of the English Civil War. By 1660, the theaters were restored back to where they
were before. Now Shakespeare's plays are performed around the world. In the
1800’s Shakespeare’s plays inspired the creation of the “Elizabethan Theaters”.
Over time Shakespeare’s plays have spread around the world and his plays will
always be remembered.
