EARLY LIFE
• Born September 12th, 1957 in Frankfurt am Main,
West Germany.
• Took piano lessons for two weeks as a kid. He hated
formal training or lessons so he is self taught.
• His mom was very musical and his dad was an
inventor so growing up he would make “additions” to
the family piano that horrified his mom and made hid
dad proud.
• As a teenager he moved to London and attended the
Hurtwood House School.

JUST STARTING OUT
• From 1977 to 1985 Zimmer worked with five different
bands: Buggles, Krisma, Helden, Mecano and the
Damned. He can actually be seen in the “Video Killed
the Radio Star” music video.
• Zimmer worked with Stanley Myers (who was a film
composer from the 1960’s to early 1990’s) in the
1980’s on a number of films. Some of their
collaborations being Moonlighting, Insignificance, and
My Beautiful Laundrette.
• In 1987 he worked with Sandy McClelland. They wrote
the theme song for the British game show Going For

WORK AS A COMPOSER

• Zimmer has composed a total of 160 scores for films,
short films and tv shows.
• Some of them are: The Lion King, The Prince of Egypt,
Gladiator, the first three films in the Pirates of the
Caribbean series, The Dark Knight, Inception, 12 Years
a Slave, Interstellar, Dunkirk, the upcoming live action
Lion King remake, and Planet Earth II.
• Many of these have received a number of awards.

AWARDS
• Zimmer has won a total of 27 awards, including an
Academy Award, to Golden Globe Awards, and four
Grammy Awards.
• Some of them are shared with other composers that
he has collaborated with such as, James Newton
Howard, Lisa Gerrard, Lorne Balfe, John Powell, Bryan
Adams, and Stephen Schwartz.
• His most award winning scores include The Lion King,
Gladiator, Inception, and Interstellar.

“CHEVALIERS DE SANGREAL”
• “Chevaliers de Sangreal” from the 2006 film The Da
Vinci Code.
• The soundtrack was nominated for a Golden Globe for
the Best Original Score.
• The film’s director stated that the soundtrack was
“powerful, fresh, and wonderfully effective”.

“ONE DAY”
• “One Day” is from the 2007 film Pirates of the
Caribbean: At Word’s End.
• The album was so well received that it sold 35,000
copies within the first week.

“TIME”
• “Time” is from the 2010 film Inception.
• The soundtrack nominated for 4 awards.
• Zimmer stated the this soundtrack is a “very electric
score”.
• It was influenced from Ennio Morricone.
