ABSTRACT

The responses of a building against seismic loads have been done by many
researchers on conventional building materials like concrete and, their
natural frequencies, response spectrum etc., have been analysed. But slowly,
non-conventional building materials are replacing concrete. So, it has
become a necessity that seismic responses of these materials are needed
to be understood. This can be done by simulating earthquakes on
Earthquake shaking tables or in software like Etabs, Staad etc.,. This study
focuses on the software analysis on behaviour of a residential building
under seismic loads with change in materials.
INTRODUCTION

The replacement of conventional building materials like concrete with non-

conventional materials like Geopolymer concrete have proven to be
structurally strong in terms of compressive strength and load bearing
capacities. But, in areas of frequent earthquakes, compressive strength alone
is not sufficient for a building to withstand the seismic loads. Flexibility,
response to vibrations, natural frequency, lateral stiffness etc., of the
material are to be analysed too so that the response and resistance of
building for seismic loads can be understood.
