MICRO TEACHING
INTRODUCTION
 Formulated by Dwight W Allen in 1961 from Transford
University.
 It is a scaled down sample of teaching.
 Every aspect of teaching is micro.
 In micro teaching
 5-10 students
5-10 minutes
 content is less important
Objective-one object
Development of a single skill
SKILLS
 Set introduction
 Explanation
 Questioning
 Skill of fluency in questioning
 Skill of asking probing of questioning
 Black board writing
 Stimulus variation
STEPS IN MICRO TEACHING
CHARACTERISTICS
 The micro element
 Feed back element
 Video and audio recording
 Colleagues and peers…
 Safe practice ground
 Acquisition of technical skills of teaching and
learning strategies.
 Teaching models
OBJECTIVES
 To make teaching scientific, meaningful and
systematic
 Simplify the complexities of teaching procedure.
 To enable the teacher trainee to learn and assimilate
different teaching skills.
 To help them to gain confidence in teaching.
 To give training in component skills at the
pre_service level.
 To gain maximum advantage with least expenditure
of time , money and material
MERITS
 The complex teaching activity is broken down into simpler
components.
 Provides a controlled setting for making various
experiments in teaching models.
 There is possibility for multi-source feedback and
assessment.
 Self evaluation is possible.
 This training or practice is based on concepts like feedback,
providing remedial measures reinforcement etc.
 It makes teaching program scientific systematic, meaningful
and effective.
 It individualizes teacher trainee. Each teacher trainee has
develop a particular skill at his own rate.
DEMERITS

 It is skill-oriented rather than content-oriented mainly
based on hours to teach not on what to teach.
 Scope is narrow. The entire process of teaching cannot
be covered by micro teaching.
 The process of teaching is not the sum total of
independent and isolated teaching skills. Teaching is
an art as well as a science.
CONCLUSION

 Micro teaching involves presentation of micro lesson.
 Immediate multi-sourced, reinforced, feedback
 Participants learn about strength, weakness themselves
are learn.
 Plan strategies for improvement in performance.
