Week 4 – Jehovah Jireh

GENESIS 22:1-14
God said, "Take your son, your only son, Isaac,
whom you love, and go to the region of Moriah.
Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on one of
the mountains I will tell you about.“
Early the next morning Abraham saddled his
donkey. He took with him two servants and his son
Isaac. When he had cut wood for the burnt
offering, he set out for the place God had told him
about.
Isaac said to his father, "The fire and wood are here,
but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?"
GENESIS 22:1-14
Abraham answered, "God himself will provide the
lamb." And the two of them went on together.
When they reached the place God had told him
about, Abraham built an altar and arranged the
wood on it. He bound his son Isaac and laid him
on the altar, on top of the wood. Then he reached
out his hand and took the knife to slay his son.
But the angel of the LORD called out to him from
heaven, "Abraham! Abraham! Do not lay a hand
on the boy. Now I know that you fear God,
because you have not withheld from me your only
son."
GENESIS 22:1-14
Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he
saw a ram caught by its horns. He went over
& took the ram & sacrificed it as a burnt
offering instead of his son.
So Abraham called that place

YAHWEH JIREH
The Lord Will Provide!
YAHWEH JIREH

“The Lord Who PROVIDES”

When we study the Bible… it’s
important to notice the NAMES of God!
GOD’S NAMES REVEAL HIS NATURE
In the past few weeks we’ve looked at
several of the names of God…
• Yahweh SABAOTH – “The Lord of Armies”
• Yahweh NISSI – The Lord our Banner”
• Yahweh SHAMMAH – The Lord is Present”
God wants you to KNOW Him by each of His
names… to know how to walk in the reality
of every part of His nature!
Today we want to look at another
one of God’s names…
YAHWEH JIREH
“The LORD Who PROVIDES!”
Yahweh Jireh means that it is part of
God’s NATURE to meet your needs!
God SEES every need you have.
If you are walking with Him…
He has committed Himself to
PROVIDE everything you need!
The name Yahweh Jireh is given in Genesis 22!
Genesis 22 tells us that God TESTED Abraham!
God told Abraham to take Isaac, his son, and travel to
the mountains of Moriah. There he would build an
altar, and offer Isaac to God as a burnt offering!
To appreciate what God was asking, we need to remember
that for most of his live, Abraham was CHILDLESS!
The great burden of his heart was that he had no heir!
Finally, when Abraham was 75, God promised him a son!
Not just any son… but a child of promise, through whom
the entire world would be blessed!
At Abraham’s age, it was hard for him to
Trust God for that! Sarah LAUGHED!
The name Yahweh Jireh is given in Genesis 22!
He tried to make it happen… and just got in a mess!
For 25 years he had to trust God… hoping against hope…
until when Abraham was 100 years old, Isaac was born!

So Isaac was not just his beloved son, Isaac was

the fulfillment of every promise God had made…
Abraham’s whole future, His destiny, and his
purpose was bound up in Isaac!
And now God told him to put Isaac on the altar!
We know this was all a test!
We know God doesn’t want a human sacrifice! But
Abraham didn’t know that! He didn’t have a Bible!
Abraham had never read Genesis 22! He didn’t
know how the story would end!

He just knew that the God who had promised him a

son was now asking him to sacrifice that son!
But Hebrews tells us that Abraham believed
that God would fulfull his promise, even if it
meant raising Isaac from the dead!
So Abraham did the most difficult thing he had ever
done! He did exactly what God instructed!
He went to the mountain of Moriah, bound
Isaac, and put him on the altar!
Shara Collins: “When Abraham offered up Isaac on
the alter, his test was the death, devastation and
destruction of what he thought was his future and
his vision.”

At the last moment, the Angel

of the Lord calls out…
‘ABRAHAM! ABRAHAM! Don’t harm your son!
Now I know that you fear God, because you would
Not withhold you only son from Me!!’
Then Abraham heard a
sound in the nearby bush.
And looking up…
He saw a ram caught in
the thicket by its horns!

God had PROVIDED a sacrifice in place

of Isaac! God saw the need… and
provided exactly what was needed!
So Abraham Called the place
YAHWEH JIREH,
“THE LORD WILL PROVIDE”
Because in that place, Abraham
learned that God SEES our needs
and PROVIDES exactly what we
need!
That’s what it means to know Yahweh Jireh!
It is having full confidence that
God SEES & PROVIDES!
JIREH – Hebrew Word:
“Yireh: to SEE”
“God SEES your need!”
Implication…When God sees the need of
His people, He is COMMITTED as their
Covenant partner to meet their need!
God will SEE TO IT that your need is met!
We need to KNOW Yahweh Jireh!
When we face needs, we need to know God as our
provider!
Many think of Yahweh Jireh when we have financial
needs, but God wants us to
trust Him with every kind of need!
Some of you need a job.
Some need a house or a mate.
Some of you need an answer to a
perplexing problem!
Whatever you need is, God wants you to know
that He is committed to meet your need!
IT IS ALWAYS GOD’S HEART TO PROVIDE!
“Mat 6:25-33 “Do not worry about your life,
what you will eat or drink; or about your
body, what you will wear… For the pagans
run after all these things, and your heavenly
Father knows that you need them. Seek first His
kingdom and His righteousness, and
ALL THESE THINGS WILL BE GIVEN TO YOU.”
Philippians 4:19 “And my God will meet
ALL YOUR NEEDS according to His glorious
riches in Christ Jesus”
IT IS ALWAYS GOD’S HEART TO PROVIDE!
Rom 8:32 He who did not spare his own Son, but
freely gave him up for us all – how will He
Not also, along with Him, GRACIOUSLY GIVE US
ALL THINGS?
Psalm 31:19 How great is your goodness,
which you have stored up for those who fear
you, which you bestow in the sight of men on
those who take refuge in you.
Psalm 34:9 THOSE WHO SEEK
THE LORD LACK NO GOOD THING.
But How does God’s provision come?
If you have a NEED… How do you
find God’s provision!
When you face a need, and you
don’t know HOW to get it met…
what do you do?
First: We need to see that God
usually doesn’t provide
through winning the lottery
or “get rich quick” schemes!
God’s Provision is not Magic!
Some think God is
like a magic genii
who gives them
what they wish for!
YOU NEED A

NEW
NEW CAR
CAR!
Claim it! Picture it!
Grit your teeth and
wish REAL HARD!
THAT IS NOT HOW GOD WORKS!
THAT IS NOT HOW GOD’S PROVISION COMES!
We also don’t get to
decide WHEN God’s
provision comes!
Some think God is
like a vending machine!
They decide it’s time for
provision, so they put in
their prayer and wait for
the provision to come!
They get frustrated if it’s
not there in 5 seconds!
THAT’S NOT HOW GOD”S
PROVISION WORKS!
HOW DOES GOD’S PROVISION COME?
In Genesis 22, we discover that there was a
PROCESS in God’s PROVISION!
1. Abraham needed to be where God told
him to be.
2. He needed to lay Isaac, and his whole
future, on the altar! …to submit totally to
God!
3. He needed to listen for the voice of God
4. He needed to wait for God! … At the right
moment… the provision came!
1. He needed to be where God told him to be!
We find God’s provision by having faith to
stand where God directs us to stand.
God met Abraham’s need, because Abraham was
where he was supposed to be!
YOUR PROVISION IS ON YOUR PATH!
God has a path marked out for your life.
His word is a light to our path.
God directs you on the path.
If you stay on God’s path…
the provision will be there!
God arranges His provision in advance!
God doesn’t wait till you are facing
lack, and then say… “Oh My!
How can I meet that need?”
God’s supply is already there!
(Rob… the provision was already there…
waiting for Rob to discover the need!)
YOU WILL NEVER GUESS HOW GOD WILL
CHOOSE TO BRING YOUR PROVISION!
GOD HAS SEEN YOUR NEED!
God already has the job, the wife, the
House, the money, the healing…
He has already worked out a plan to
meet every need you will ever have!
Your provision is in God’s path!
As long as YOU stay on God’s path,
You can’t miss the provision!
You need to be where God tells you to be!
2. Lay EVERYTHING on the altar!
Lay your children on the altar.
God will provide what is necessary! They will receive
revelation of who they are and their call.
Lay the generation that went before on the altar. They
will receive revelation to finish what God spoke to them.
Lay whatever you need to on the altar now.
Lay your business, your boss, your
Relationships on the altar.
Lay YOURSELF on the altar.
Tell the Lord you are willing to change
in any area so the things He has burned
in your heart will manifest.
3. Abe needed to listen for the voice of God
He needed to do exactly what God told him to do!
We find God’s provision in the center of His will!
We receive it when we are trusting God
and following His instructions.
God often begins with what you have…
then tells you how to multiply it!
He sometimes gives you instructions… and when
you obey, you find the provision! (One Thing!)
Stuck in Ukraine… no way back to Moscow to
catch our plane… “visit the widow”
As you are waiting to see God’s provision, be
careful to do everything He tells you to do!
Some of His instructions are in the Bible:
Seek wise counsel
Be diligent in everything
you put your hand to.
Sometimes it will be a prophetic word!
Stay bound until God shows your way.
Tell your heart not to fear, and wait on God.
“God is hiding you in His pavilion and the
enemy encampment cannot overtake you.”
4. At the right moment, the provision came!
WHEN DOES GOD’S PROVISION COME?
Just at the moment we need it!
WAYS of God: “God is never late, hardly ever early!”
Some say… I don’t have money to pay that
bill, and it’s due in three weeks!
God knows if he gave you the money three weeks in
advance, you’d probably spend it on something else!

How do you know God as Yahweh Jireh?

Lay your future in the altar…

Put it in God’s hands…
You do what God tell you to do…
Stand where God tells you to stand,
And WAIT for Him!
Listen for the sound in the thicket!
Your provision is there.
If you have a need right now that you
don’t know how to meet…
Strengthen your heart & wait for Him.
Don’t try to scheme and plot and plan.
