Bharti Biography:
First generation entrepreneur.
1976- 1st business in Delhi with Rs.20000 borrowed from
his father, manufactured crankshafts for bicycles.
1980- sold bicycle parts business, moved to Mumbai.
1981- purchased import licenses from export companies
in Punjab. Imported Suzuki portable generators from
Japan. Govt. banned import licenses.
Bharti Biography:
1984- assembled push-button phones in India, formed
Bharti Telecom Limited(BTL) with Siemens AG of
Germany.
Early 1990’s- manufactured fax machines, cordless
telephones and other telecom gear under brand name
Beetel.
1992- successfully bid for 1 of 4 private network licenses,
collaborated with French telecom group Vivendi.
1994- business plans were approved by government.
Bharti Biography:
1995- Bharti Cellular Limited(BCL) was formed to offer
cellular services under brand name- AIRTEL.
Within few years, Bharti became 1st company to cross 2-
million mobile subscriber mark.
Bharti also brought down STD/ISD cellular rates in India
under brand name INDIAONE.
2004- converted TOUCHTEL-fixed line service- into
AIRTEL, announced launch of Blackberry Wireless
Solutions in India
2006- tie-up with Wal-Mart, announced plans for stores
across India
Bharti Biography:
2008- Airtel tie-up with SingTel in Sri Lanka to provide
3G services
2008- started DTH service- Airtel Digital TV in India
2008- i-Phone 3G services offered
2009- in talks with MTN group for 100% stake
2010- Airtel tie-up with Abu Dhabi company Warid
Telecom to establish Airtel Bangladesh
2010- negotiating $10.7 billion deal with Zain for African
assests

In talks with MTN group, South African telecom
company, for 100% stake at $45 billion.
In process of acquiring African arm of Zain telecom,
Kuwait-based company, for $10.7 billion.
Latest- Zain chairman says, deal could take months to
close.
Philanthrophy:
He is opening a Football academy in Haryana or Goa to
help India send a team to the 2018 FIFA World Cup
