3. All learners, including TRANSFEREES, who have


met the standards, criteria, and guidelines set by
this policy shall be recognized.

4. There can be TWO or MORE recipients of any


award. However, should there be no qualified
learner, the awards shall not be given

How do schools determine awardees?
• Awards Committee (AC)
– Organized by the SH or principal in every school
for each grade level at the beginning of the SY
– Composed of at least 3 members from the
teaching staff, guidance counselor or designated
teacher
– Chaired by any of the teachers, department head,
grade-level, chairperson, or curriculum head
How do schools determine awardees?
• Awards Committee (AC):
– Establishes the processes of and timelines in
accepting nominations and determining qualifiers
for grade-level awards
– Formulates rubrics specific to the grade level
awards
– Communicates to the school community, parents
and other stakeholders the processes involved in
giving awards

• Awards Committee (AC):
– Verifies the authenticity of documents submitted

– Deliberates on the qualifications of the candidates


for the awards based on the rubrics and the
documents submitted

– Recommends to the SH or principal the result of


evaluation for approval

and other stakeholders involved in the results of
the evaluation
– Recommends to the SH or principal the resolution
on any related issue that may arise from the
results of the awards

Step 6 Evaluate and deliberate candidates for each
award based on the portfolio (report card,
certificates, documentation) submitted by the
learner against the rubrics set by the AC
Step 7 Submit results of the evaluation and
deliberation to the school head or principal
for approval March
Step 8 Ensure that the results of the evaluation and
deliberation are communicated to the class
advisers, parents, nominees, and school
community (in case of protest/s, the AC will
facilitate its timely resolution)
Step 9 Announce or post the final list of awardees

recommendation of the committee
• Final list to be approved by the person next in rank,
if SH is related within the second degree of
consanguinity or affinity to any of the candidates

Step 8 Ensure that the results of the evaluation and


deliberation are communicated to the class advisers,
parents, nominees, and school community (in case of
protest/s, the AC will facilitate its timely resolution)
Step 9 Announce or post the final list of awardees

• Documents to be kept in the principal’s office


• Copies to be submitted to the SDOs
• Final list to be released by the AC, upon request of
stakeholders for scholarship purposes
• Awardees’ roles and tasks for the graduation or
school-awarding ceremony to be determined and
assigned by the AC and SH

Grade-level Awards
Leadership Award
• Given in Grades 6, 10 and 12, during
the completion or graduation ceremony
• Obtained by a learner who must:
– Have no failing grades in any of the
learning areas
– Have not committed any offense
punishable by suspension or higher
sanction in the current SY
– Be a class officer or an active
member/officer of any recognized school
club, team or organization

• Schools may opt to add more indicators


based on the decision of the AC.

• Candidates will be evaluated by at least 30%


of their peers, and also their class/club
advisers.

• Only those learners who have met at least


90% of the criteria shall be awarded.

• Given to learners who have represented


and/or demonstrated exemplary
performance in DepEd-recognized activities
at various levels

• Given to publicly affirm and acknowledge


the contribution of the awardees in giving
honor to the school
Special Recognition
• Awards from external sponsors, partners, and
donors shall be regulated by the school,
subject to compliance with the policy
guidelines.

• These should be consistent with the


DepEd’s Vision, Mission and Core Values,
and must be named after the trait, value or
achievement recognized, or an esteemed
person who is deceased.

When to file and settle protests?
• To be filed by the candidate with his/her
parent or guardian

• To be filed to the SH within 3 working days


from the announcement

• To be decided on by the SH, considering the


recommendations of the AC within 3 working
days of filing

• For learners in the Special Education (SpEd)


program who follow the K to 12 Curriculum,
the same policy guidelines shall apply.

• For those using a modified curriculum,


recognition may be based on their
performance in meeting the standards of the
curriculum.

• To be implemented in public elementary


and secondary schools, including Grade 6
classes under the old BEC

• Policy guidelines on awards and recognition


set by private schools, HEIs, TVIs, SUCs, and
LUCs offering basic education to be
consistent with this policy
