Introduction

Generally, investors are confused between mutual funds and equity shares.
The objective of this study is to conduct a research on investor preference on mutual
fund and equity shares based on various factors influencing investment habits of
investors. So in this study, the difference between both the avenues are analyzed and
to determine which is more suitable to investors. The study is going to be conducted
among the customers who have chosen both the mutual funds and equity shares
through Geojit Financial Services Ltd.
Significance of the study

This study is intended to find out the difference between mutual funds and
equity shares. The requirement of this research is to know the behavior of investors
who have invested in mutual funds , equity shares or both. This study also tries to
know their current scenario of these two investment options.
Scope of the Study

This qualitative study is concentrated on investor’s perception in Mutual Funds and


Equity Shares at Geogit Financial Services Ltd.
Statement of the Problem

This study is to meant to create a comparison between Mutual Funds and


Equity Shares as an investment avenue. The study also determines the investor
preference towards Mutual Funds and Equity Shares. This will help to analyze the
socio economic factors affecting the investment decisions.
Objectives of the Study

General Objective :

• To study the investor preference towards Mutual Funds and Equity Shares with reference to

Geojit Financial Services Ltd.

Specific Objectives :

• To understand the concept of investors preference towards Mutual Funds and Equity Shares.

• To identify the various factors influencing investing habits of investors towards mutual funds and
equity shares.

• To study the association between demographic and socio economic factors and investment
decisions.
Research Design

• Type of Research - The type of research going to be used for this study is
descriptive in nature.

• Population - The population for this study consist of investors who have invested
in both equities and mutual funds of Geojit Financial Services Ltd.

Population - 826

• Sample Size - Sample size refers to the number of elements or individuals which
is to be analyzed in the research.

• Sampling Method - Convenience Sampling Method under non probability


sampling technique will be used for the sampling in this study.

• Primary Data - Primary data will be collected through questionnaire and interview
method.

• Secondary Data - Secondary data will be collected through journals, websites and
magazines.

• Tools for Data Analysis - Percentage analysis of the will be presented in charts and
tables.
