 Justificación

“
Como consecuencia de la quema de combustibles fósiles 9 de cada
10 personas respiramos aire contaminado con partículas
microscópicas que pueden dañar los pulmones, el corazón y el
cerebro, ocasionando la muerte de alrededor de 7 millones de
personas anualmente. En la actualidad es necesario el diseño e
implementación de filtros automotrices con mayor eficiencia que
permitan la reducción de gases contaminantes. En este marco las
zeolitas naturales podrían tener un potencial de aplicación en la
remoción de dichos gases debido a sus propiedades de adsorción.

 Planteamiento del problema

“
Existen diferentes causas que originan la contaminación atmosférica, entre las mas importantes destacan
las actividades industriales, comerciales, domésticas y agropecuarias. La contaminación de aire,
ocasionada por la quema de combustibles fósiles en plantas de energía y vehículos automotrices, es
responsable de la muerte de alrededor de medio millón de personas en el mundo y también causa entre
4 y 5 millones de enfermedades, tales como la bronquitis crónica y cáncer. Teniendo como consecuencia
problemas ambientales como el calentamiento global provocado principalmente por los gases de efecto
invernadero entre los que destacan el dióxido de carbono, el metano, los óxidos de nitrógeno y de azufre
que son producidos al quemar carbón, petróleo o gas.

Diseñar y construir un filtro cerámico a partir de una zeolita natural
capaz de retener gases tóxicos, por medio del proceso de adsorción e
intercambio iónico para usarse en automóviles.
