2018 International Training on Teaching Strategies

(May 10-12)
*Guidelines
Ice breaker
*By the end of this workshop,
participants will:
1.Examine teaching practices for
different learning modalities
2.Practice introducing new materials or
techniques in the classroom
3.Write a lesson plan incorporating
several modalities, and evaluate one
other lesson plan

*Objectives
Activity:
List as many
pedagogical
activities as you
can in 3 minutes
*Learning styles
*What is a learning style?
*A learning style is…
*related to the mind
*related to how we learn
*a way to take in and process
information
*a preference that gets stronger the
more it is used
*Why should I care about
learning styles?
*The way a child learns affects his/her
personality and development.

*Understanding learning styles will help

teachers...
*...communicate better with their students.
*...differentiate instruction.
Auditory Learner
*Auditory learners understand
information through listening.
*Auditory learners gather knowledge
from radio, lectures and speeches.
*Auditory learners prefer to listen in
class. Taking notes can distract them.

*“The Auditory
Learner”
*Visual learners acquire information
through observation. They acquire
visual stimuli.
*There are two types of visual learners.
Visual recognition or visualizing
*"A picture is worth a thousand words.”

*“The Visual Learner”

Kinesthetic
Learner
* Kinesthetic learners need to move their
bodies. Movement helps them
concentrate
* Stillness can hinder cognition
* Not all active or “malikot” students are
kinesthetic learners.

*“The Kinesthetic
Learner”
Learning
Created using Inspiration software: www.inspiration.com. Following slides adapted
from Dr. Erica Warren: Warren www.goodsensorylearning.com
*Sequential learners like information
presented in a specific order or
sequence.
*E.g. numerical or alphabetical order

*“The Sequential
Learner”
*Simultaneous learners need to relate
and connect information.
*Simultaneous learners like to organize
materials by commonalities

*“The Simultaneous
Learner”
*The reflective learner needs to think
about or analyze material.
*They spend a lot of time planning and
reprocessing information.

*“The Reflective
Learner”
*Verbal learners like to think aloud and
talk to themselves or others.
*Sharing words can help to sort out and
organize ideas.

*The Verbal Learner”

*The interactive learner enjoys
working with others when acquiring
new knowledge, practicing skills,
doing homework, etc.

*“The Interactive
Learner”
*The indirect experience learner
enjoys learning thru the experiences
and demonstrations of others
*“Second-hand info”

*“The Indirect
Experience Learner”
* Direct experience learners
like to learn from “the real
world”
* They crave field trips, on the
job training, DIY experiments,
etc.

*“The Direct
Experience Learner”
*The rhythmic melodic learner thinks in
rhythms/patterns.
*Melodies assist them with
memorization
*Music can heighten their concentration

*“The Rhythmic
Melodic Learner”

A, V, K

need to improve on in this
lesson.

Groups have 7 minutes
to prepare a strategy to
explain what osmosis
is.

Workshop
Lesson planning with
multiple modalities
1. Groups prepare a lesson plan
on any topic
2. Must incorporate all
modalities: A, V, K, and M
3. Submit your lesson plan for
