LOCATION OF THE HEART The muscle that pumps blood received
from veins into arteries throughout the
body

Located within the thoracic cavity and above the

diaphragm

Medially between the lungs in the space known

as the mediastinum

Separated from the other mediastinal structures

by a tough membrane known as the pericardium

FUNCTIONS OF THE HEART

Blood supplies
It acts like a pump oxygen and nutrients
that drives the blood to each cell and
to the organs, tissues collects carbon
and cells of the body. dioxide and waste
substances produced
by those cells.
CARDIAC CYCLE

The heart performs two types of movements, one In humans, the heart beats per minute about 70
of contraction (systole) and another of relaxation times, that is, it performs 70 cardiac cycles.
(diastole).
Lasts 0.8 seconds and consists of 3 phases:

ATRIAL SYSTOLE:
-Simultaneous contraction of the right
and left atria.

-Is the dilation of the atria and

ventricles. -Simultaneous contraction of the

open and the sigmoid valves close.
