Informative: teach, demonstrate, or instruct an audience


on some topic or process

Analytical: using critical thinking skills, and presenting


information with the use of data to interpret the impact of
the information presented

Planning a Presentation
Selecting the topic: What is the topic?
 Is it contemporary?
 Is it impactful?
Audience:
 Who is the target audience?
 What is the demographics of the audience?
What is the Setting?
 Formal & public?
 Formal & private ?
Developing the Topic
From the plethora of information on the topic, the challenge is to
keep the most relevant, and organize it systematically

 Systematic organization facilitates coherence and cogency. This is


able to better attract the audience
Informative & Analytical Presentation Flow
Step 1: Introduce (define) the topic; state its relevance by relating it
to a larger context or setting that is contemporary

Step 2: Depict relevant & authentic sources of information such as:


statistical data, visuals, views of experts (to establish logic)

Step 3: Interpret the data and state your observations/ state


strategic & managerial implications for a
company/public/government as applicable

 Step 4: Conclude & invite questions

Giving the Presentation
Dress like a professional: formality of attire gives you the
confidence and increases acceptability before the audience
Ensure your PPT is uploaded beforehand
Greet the audience, and deliver the first line without looking at
the PPT
Maintain eye contact with the audience, and avoid frequent
reading from the PPT
Speak with moderate pace, emphasize your key ideas
Show energy and authority in your body language
Summarize your main points and complete the presentation
PPT Slides
Clarity: slide background, color, and visuals should
enable faster reading & retention
Conciseness: verbosity should be avoided
Simplicity: easy to read & absorb
Message: should be data-driven (use of graphs, charts,
flow diagrams to substantiate the points)
Font type & Size: clear fonts with minimum 18-20 size
Use of bullets: concise text with no full stops
