DECISION REVIEW SYSTEM

(DRS) AND GOAL LINE

TECHNOLOGY USING PYTHON.
WHAT WE ARE GOING TO DO IN
OUR PROJECT?
• First-of-all
we are going to play a video in which the
batsman is out or not is not specified
• So by using DRS we are going to specify whether he is
out or not.
• Ifthe batsman is out we are going to show a out
message
• And if the batsman is not out the we are going to a
not-out message.
REQUIREMENT ANALYSIS

• Software Requirements
• FRONTEND : Python (PY)
• OPERATING SYSTEM : Windows 7
• 5.2 Hardware requirement:
• PROCESSOR : Pentium-4
• RAM : 4GB
• HARD DISK : 1TB
PROPOSED SYSTEM

The aim of proposed system is to develop a system of

improved facilities. The proposed system can overcome all the
limitations of the existing system. The system provides proper
security and reduces the manual work.
• Security of data.
• Ensure data accuracy.
• Minimize umpire’s work.
• Minimum time needed for the various processing.
• Greater efficiency.
WHAT IS A DRS

• The Umpire Decision Review System (UDRS or DRS) is a

technology-based system used in cricket to assist the match
officials with their decision-making.
• On-field umpires may choose to consult with the third
umpire (known as an Umpire Review), and players may request
that the third umpire consider a decision of the on-field
umpires.
• The main elements that have been used are television replays,
technology that tracks the path of the ball and predicts what it
would have done, microphones to detect small sounds made as
the ball hits bat or pad, and infra-red imaging to detect
temperature changes as the ball hits bat or pad.
GOAL-LINE TECHNOLOGY

• In association football, goal-line technology (sometimes referred to as

a Goal Decision System) is the use of electronic aid to determine if
a goal has been scored or not.
• In detail, it is a method used to determine when the ball has
completely crossed the goal line in between the goal-posts and
underneath the crossbar with the assistance of electronic devices and
at the same time assisting the referee in awarding a goal or not.
• The objective of goal-line technology (GLT) is not to replace the role
of the officials, but rather to support them in their decision-making.
• The GLT must provide a clear indication as to whether the ball has
fully crossed the line, and this information will serve to assist the
referee in making his final decision.
WE ARE GOING TO DISCUSS...

• History of DRS.
• History of goal line technology.
• Number of Reviewing option a team has.
• Components and their working.
• Advantages and Disadvantages.
BRIEF HISTORY

• The system was first introduced in Test cricket, for the sole purpose of
reviewing controversial decisions made by the on-field umpires as to
whether or not a batsman/batswoman had been dismissed.
• The system is based on the concept of player - referral conceived by
Senaka Weeraratna in 1997.
• The system was first tested in an India v Sri Lanka match in 2008,and
was officially launched by the ICC on 24 November 2009 during the
first Test match between New Zealand and Pakistan.
NUMBER OF REVIEWING OPTION A
TEAM HAS.
• Each team is allowed to make no more than two unsuccessful review
requests per innings during a Test Match and no more than one
unsuccessful review request per innings during a One Day International.
• A fielding team may use the system to dispute a "not out" call and a
batting team may use it to dispute an "out" call.
• The fielding team captain or the batsman being dismissed invokes the
challenge by signalling a "T" with the arms.
• Once the challenge is invoked, acknowledged, and agreed, the Third
Umpire reviews the play.
• At their discretion, field umpires may request the Third Umpire for
certain close calls such as line calls (to determine run outs and stumpings),
boundary calls (to see if a batsman hit a four or a six), or for close catch
calls where neither umpire is sure if a catch was made.
COMPONENTS AND THEIR WORKING.

• No ball decision system

• Run-out system
• Video Assistant Referee (VAR)
• Bonus line
NO BALL DECISION SYSTEM.

• Some times the bowler crosses his crease which is not allowed
in the game.
• By doing so the opponent’s team gets a run and a free-hit.
• Free-hit means the batsman can freely hit one ball with no
danger of being out in most ways.
• In this system the third umpire checks the video in slow motion
to check whether the bowler has crossed the crease or not.
RUN-OUT SYSTEM

• If the batsmen does not reach the crease and he is caught with
the stump out, then t is called as run out.
• In run out if the bails are moved from the stump and the
batsmen has not reached the crease then he is declared as out.
• The runout review system works similar to the no ball where the
third umpire checks the moments of batsmen in slow motion to
see whether he has reached the crease or not.
ADVANTAGES OF DRS.

• More reliance on technology makes decision fair.

• Anyone (Batsman or Bowler) unsatisfied with on field
umpires decision can refer it up stairs.
• Makes unnecessary aggression less.
• An extra help
• More accurate result.
• More satisfied result.
DISADVANTAGES OF DRS.

• Disrespecting on-field umpire’s decision.

• Expensive as it gives more accurate result.
• Limited reviews: Per team 2 reviews in 2 innings.
• Time consuming
ADVANTAGES OF GLT.

• Theresults are more accurate than human observations

and decisions
• It is not effected by the weather such as when visibility is
bad during a game
• Since
the decision is decided in an objective manner
mechanically, there can be less dispute
DISADVANTAGES OF GLT.

• The signals from the ball may be time consuming as well

to verify that the ball in fact crossed the plane
• Therewill still be the argument that technology is not
completely reliable all of the time
• Some older fans are more reluctant to trust technology at
all in making those kind of major decisions
APPLICATIONS
• To check whether the player has crossed the bonus line or not.

• It is used to decide whether the player is out or not in cricket.

• More reliance on technology makes decision fair.

• Anyone (Batsman or Bowler) unsatisfied with on field umpires decision can refer it up
stairs.

• Lessen unnecessary aggression.

• An extra help.

• The results are more accurate than human observations and decisions.

• It is not affected by the weather such as when visibility is bad during a game.

• Since the decision is decided in an objective manner mechanically, there can be fewer
disputes.

• Television replays, including slow motion
