INTRODUCTION
Density of population
means to the average
number of people living
per square kilometer.
The density of population in India was 117
per square km. in 1951 which increased to
324 per sq. km in 2001 and 382 per sq. km in
2011, which is considerably higher than the
average population density of the world
2011, which are 46 per square kilometre.
This makes India one of the most
densely populated countries of the
world.
As a result of the gradual increase in
the population of India with the
passing of each day, the population
density of India per square km is also
quickly on the rise.
A survey of the Indian population
density 2011 shows quite a
considerable rise in the figures of
population density in India
A higher density of population of a region
would essentially mean that it is an urban area
with high buildings and other modern aspects.

The density of population was decreased in
between 2001 and 2011. NCT of Delhi with
population density 11, 297 is the most
thickly populated UT. Among the states,
Bihar is on the top of the list
with a population density of
1,102 in 2011.
The highest population density
is in the Eastern region
including Bihar and West Bengal.
The Lowest population density is
observed in North-Eastern region.
Bihar is the most thickly populated
state (1106 persons/sq km.) followed
by west bengal-1028 and Kerala 860.
Population density increased at the
rate of 17.54 from 2001 to 2011.

Comparison Between States
While the National Capital Region area of
Delhi possesses the highest of the
population density 2011 among the states
of India having a statistics of 9,340 per
square kilometre, the state of Arunachal
Pradesh has the lowest record of
population density having just 13 per
square kilometre.
The Eastern region has by far the highest
density increased from 431 in 1991 to 525
in 2001 . followed by Central region and
Western region respectively
The North Eastern region has the lowest
population density.
