1. Conventional Contour Mining excavations are made
along the hillside in
the area where the
coal is exposed.
Covering is done by
blasting and drilling
or using dozers and
rippers and front end
leader loading tools,
then immediately
pushed and buried in
the lower slope area.

2. Block-Cut Contour Mining

In this way, the mining area is divided into mining blocks which aim to reduce
the accumulation of waste land when stripping overburden around the slope.

3. Haulback Contour Mining

This haulback method
is a modification of the
block-cut concept,
which requires a type
of overburden
transport, rather than
directly hoarding it. So
this method requires
careful planning and
operation to effectively
deal with coal and
overburden.

4. Box-cut contour mining In this box-cut contour mining method, the

overburden that has been excavated is piled
on a flat area along the outcrop to form a
low embankment that will help support the
largest portion of the pile.

Mountaintop Removal Method
COAL MINING

Sumber: Mountaintop Removal Method (Chioronis, 1987)

In this method, the overburden can be completely

peeled off, allowing 100% coal recovery.
COAL MINING
This method is applied to mine coal
deposits near the surface in a horizontal
to slightly sloping area. Mining starts
from coal outcrops that have layers and
shallow overburden proceed to thicker
ones up to the pit boundary.

COAL MINING Open Pit Method
This method can be
applied to coal seams
consisting of one layer
(single seam) or more
(multiple seam). In
this way the
overburden that can
be piled up on both
sides of each
stripping.

(Hartman, 1987)
In this way, mining
begins with stripping
overburden and
landfill is carried out
in mined areas. In
this method, both in
overburden stripping
and coal excavation, a
benching system is
used.

This mining method is characterized by
COAL MINING leaving coal pillars as a natural buffer.

mining panels where roof rock collisions are
allowed to occur behind the excavation area.
Auger Mining
COAL MINING
Auger mining is a mining method
for surfaces with high walls or the
discovery of outcrop recovery from
coal by drilling or digging openings
into layers between layers.

underground mine system are
the room and pillar method:
γ (MN / m3): 0.026
E (MPa): 37187.65
v (MPa): 0.192
σt (MPa): 0
c (MPa): 0.34338
As for the results of the analysis of the

σ1 (MPa): 0.28
above using the Hoek and Brown
σ3 (MPa): 0.2
Generalization approach are as follows:
CONCLUSION

1. The material at the study site can be included in the moderate

rock UCS class 25-50MPa (ISRM) with compressive strength
values of 3 samples ranging from 33-42 MPa; content weight
2.31 gr / cm3; cohesion (c) from the results of normal shear
strength test and residual shear for coating 0.343 MPa; inner
friction angle (0) 21.95°; Modulus Young 37187.65MPa; poison
ratio 0.19.
2. A stable opening hole geometry based on the results of data
analysis obtained a hole opening with a geometry width of 5 m
and height 5 m in the shape of a horseshoe hole and a safety
factor value of 3.16.
3. Based on data analysis, the room and pillar geometry that are
safe to support mining activities are 10 m wide, 9 m high,
rectangular in shape, and a safety factor value of 1.89 is
obtained.
4. Further studies are needed on the safety factors of making this
underground mine.
