• Cheerleading was originated from United States

• 1877 Princeton University had a "Princeton Cheer", documented in the February


22, 1877, March 12, 1880, and November 4, 1881.
• This cheer was yelled from the stands by students attending games, as well as by
the athletes themselves. The cheer, "Hurrah! Hurrah! Hurrah! Tiger! S-s-s-t! Boom!
A-h-h-h!"

• Princeton class of 1882 graduate
Thomas Peebles moved to
Minnesota in 1884.
- He transplanted the idea of organized
crowds cheering at football games to
University of Minnesota the University of Minnesota.
• 1898 the University of Minnesota
student Johnny Campbell directed a
crowd in cheering "Rah, Rah, Rah! Ski-u-
mah, Hoo-Rah! Hoo-Rah! Varsity!
Varsity! Varsity, Minn-e-So-Tah!",
making Campbell the very first cheerleader.
• November 2, 1898 is the official birth date of
organized cheerleading. But only males were
allowed to join.
• In 1903, the first cheerleading fraternity, Gamma
Sigma, was founded.
• In the 1940s, collegiate men were drafted
for World War II, creating the opportunity for more
women to make their way onto sporting event
sidelines.
CHEERDANCE was coined from the words Cheer and Dance it
originated in the United States.

CHEER To cheer is to shout out words or phrases that may help


motivate and boost the morale of a playing team and perform better
during a game.

DANCE On the other hand, is a physical activity


where one expresses emotions or gesture while
performing bodily movements usually in time with
rhythm.
Cheerleading
Is the performance of a routine, usually dominated by:
 Gymnastic skills such as jumps, tumbling skills, lifts and tosses.
 Routine of 2 minutes and 30 seconds
Cheer Dance
Cheer Dance routine composed of:
 Composed of yells and cheers.
 Gymnastic skills (pyramids and tosses, stunts,
tumbling skills, arm and hand positions and
jumps)
 Dance (fusion of different dance genres)
 Beginning Stance
Feet together, hands down by the side in blades.
 Clasp
Hands clasped, at the chin, elbows in.
 Clap
Hands in blades, at the chin, elbows in.
 High V
Arms extended up forming a “V”, relax the shoulders
 Low V
Arms extended down forming a “V”
 Touchdown
Arms extended straight and parallel to each other,
fist facing in.
 Low Touchdown
Arms extended straight down and parallel to each other, fist facing in.
 L Motion
One arm extended to the side with other arm extended in a punch
motion, (Left L shown)
 T Motion
Both arms extended straight out to the side and parallel to the ground,
relax the shoulders.
 Half T
Both arms parallel to the ground and bent at the elbows, fists into
shoulders.
Cheer dance and cheerleading isn’t just about yelling or
cheering, it’s also about the complicated movements
which start in basic motions and skills.
The students will learn the basic skills in cheer dance as
they develop strength, flexibility and other skills and
abilities. The students already learned the rudiments of
managing their weight, watching their diet and keeping
their body fit through cheer dance.
