 Seismic Zone Ref.

Seismic Zone –III IS 1893-2002

 SBC of Soil – 20 T / m2 as per soil test report

2. CODES REFERRED
 IS -456-2000 Code of Practice for plain and
Reinforced Concrete.
 IS -1893-2002 Criteria for Earthquake Resistant
Design of Structure.
 IS -875-1987 Code of Practice for Design
Loads ( other than earthquake) for buildings &
structures. i) Part 1 – Dead Loads
ii) Part 2 – Imposed Loads
iii) Part 3 – Wind Loads
 SP : 24-1980 Design aides to IS -456-1978
 IS : 1904-1986 Code of Practice for Design and
construction of foundation in soils
 IS 2062 & IS 226 Structural Steel Hand Book
3. DESIGN CRITERIA / ASSUMPTIONS
 Wind and seismic loads do not occur simultaneously.

 Gust effects are not considered on the frame, since the short
period gusts may not cause any appreciable increase in the
stresses on the main components of the building.

 Building is assumed to be with medium openings i.e.

openings are between 5% to 20% of wall area. This
assumption is made to fix the internal pressure coefficient
in wind load calculations.
4. DESIGN PHILOSOPHY
 3D analysis of framed structure is carried out for
various buildings.
 The plan and the longitudinal elevation are shown.
 The Analysis is carried out using ‘ Staad Pro
Package 2004
 The Columns are taken as fixed at the base
 Materials used are assumed to be homogeneous
and isotropic
 Load factors considered for load combinations
comprising of wind or seismic load is 1.20 and in
other load cases it is 1.5
 Linear analysis is considered
5. LOADS CONSIDERED
 Self weight of structural elements.
 Live load on structures.
 Wind from Left to Right (external pressure) Because
of symmetry of the frame, wind from Right to Left is
not considered).
 Internal wind pressure ( +ve & -ve).
 Seismic Loads.
6. LOAD COMBINATIONS
 Dead Load + Live Load
 Dead Load + Wind Load (External Pressure)
+ Wind Load (internal)+ve + Live load
 Dead Load + Live Load + Wind load
( external +internal(-ve) )
 Dead Load + Live Load (Reduced) + Seismic load

7. DESIGN DATA
 Grade of Concrete – M20
 Grade of steel – Fe 500
