 Swimming – an activity that test fitness and

stamina and the most common recreational


activities.
 Surfing – is riding a surfboard on the forward
face of a wave which carries you towards the
shore. Balance plays a critical role in
maintaining the posture on the various
equipment that can be used for surfing.
Examples:
 Surfboard, surf mats, long-boards, stand up
paddle boards, wave-skis, knee-boards, or
skim-boards.
 Windsurfing – it is a radical technique of
surfing that combined with sailing skill.The
equipment used are surfboard with a sail fixed
on a movable mast. The windsurfer has to
move with the waves to control the board, and
at the same time manage the sail according to
the winds.
 Jet Skiing – is basically racing over the a body
of water on a one-man watercraft machine.
Competitive racing is also done between 10-20
racers over a set course. It is not yet
recognized as an Olympic event but included in
the Asian Beach Games.
 Wakeboarding – it is surfing while being towed
along by a high- speed boat. The board is
specifically designed board with fins and
weights to allow the rider to manipulate it with
his feet. It is partially inspired by snowboarding
and often performed in smaller water bodies
like lakes.
 Water Skiing – a water surface sport that is
basically skiing on water. It uses a single or 2
skis to skim or to glide along the surface of the
water which is pulled by a high-speed
powerboat with the help of a ski cable or rope.
On a competitive basis, show water skiing and
slalom skiing are followed along with a
standard dual skiing.
 Triathlon – a type of race that popularly
involves swimming, cycling, and running
various distances in immediate succession. It is
a popular sport that was recently included in
Olympics. It is a test of your physical fitness
and stamina. (Ironman series and World Cup
Championship being organized every year)
 Kitesurfing – uses a small surfboard or
wakeboard which is pulled by a kite. You need
to train in order to understand the movement
and direction control of the kite.
 Skimboarding – it is a board sport with a twist.
Unlike surfers who start deep into the waves by
swimming to the deeper part of the ocean,
skimboarders start at the beach, wading with
the board into the wash of previous waves.
 The board is smaller than the surfboard and can
be done in lakes and rivers as opposed to
surfing which requires a large body of water.

 Bodyboarding – a surface water sport where the
surfer rides a bodyboard on a wave that carries
him towards the shore. Bodyboards vary to the
riders specifications regarding the style of
riding, height and weight. Mike Stewart(Hawaii,
USA – World Championship) is a 9 team record
holder and considered as one of the best riders
of all time. The International Bodyboarding Ass.
World Tour determines who will be the
champion now.
 Cliff Diving – the diver jumps off cliffs or rocks
in freshwater or salt water. Avid cliff divers
travel the world in search of exotic locations to
experience the thrill and ultimate rush.
 Fishing – a type of water sport that can be lazy,
relaxed or a frenzied and highly competitive
activity. The species and quantity of catch
required depend on competition rules and areas
of fishing (sea, river or lakes)
Types of fishing: big-game fishing, fly fishing,
deep-sea fishing
 Water Polo – a very energetic sport that involves
a full body workout, as players swim and shot
the ball on the opponent goal. One player
should be assigned as goalie to defend their
goal. It is also the same as handball played in
water which is very intense and competitive with
lots of strategies and techniques involved in
game play.( very old Olympics event)
 Rafting – a thrill-seekers and extreme sports in
water where an inflatable raft must be
maneuvered over rather rough or dangerous
water by a team of around 4-12 people. It
depends on the location and water current
speed done during rainy weather.
 Rowing – a sport in which athletes compete in boats
on rivers, lakes, or the ocean, depending on the
type of race. The force of the athletes on the oar
blades of the boat while rowing, work against the
water forces to propel the boat forward. It is played
for both competitive and recreational and
considered as one of the oldest sport in Olympics.
 Synchronized Diving – a water sport which is a little
more complex because particular diving, jumping
forms and rules exists. In some cases acrobatics
while falling must also be performed.
It is a very popular and intensely competitive
Olympic event which can be done by solo or
synchronized where 2 divers must mimic or perform
opposite diving forms while diving simultaneously.
 Synchronized Swimming – a combination of
swimming, gymnastics and dance, synchronized
swimming is performed elegant synchronized
moves in the water with music played in the
background. It requires great flexibility,
aerobics endurance, strength, grace, perfect
timing and excessive breath control when
underwater. Olympics and World Championship
do not allow men to compete, however, there
are other competitions that allows male
swimmers to participate.
 Sailing – it is traveling over water in a vessel or
vehicle that has sails can be termed as sailing.
Sailing is an intensely competitive sport for youth,
men, and women which are held apart from the
Olympic Sailing Regatta. (Sailing World
Championships and Sailing World Cup are
examples of competitions)
 Kayaking – is a small boat called “kayak” is used to
move across water and can be done in white water
rivers, seas, or lakes for different purposes.
Recreation, expeditions, touring, adventure, or
competitive are examples this purposes. It is a part
of the Olympics and is one of the fastest growing
outdoor activities.
 Canooeing – it is done in a small boat called a
“canooe” which is pointed at both ends. It can be
individual or group of people in rivers, lakes, or
even water parks. It can be relaxing or adventurous
depending on the type of water that you choose. It
is a great sport and has been part of the Olympics
events for a long time.
 Powerboating – is a high speed powerboat enough
to get your adrenaline pumping and enjoy the
thrills of a race. You need to be cautious as racing
of boats that needs you to be extra aware of your
surroundings.
 Yachting – technically speaking, it is sailing or
boating on a vessel called “yacht”. It is designed to
sail fast and widely used for racing. The American
Cup is the oldest and most prestigious event in
yachting and exclusively for members.
 Snorkeling – swimming on the surface of the water
with a diving mask, fins, and a hallow tube called a
“snorkel” (a pipe that helps you to breathe
underwater). It is a simple nature appreciation
which you can observe underwater life and corals
without any training or equipment.
 Spearfishing – is an ancient method of fishing
using sharpened sticks to catch fish. Technology
has changed the method by using an air-powered
spearguns or slings along with various diving
equipments. It is the most environment-friendly
form of fishing.
 Underwater Photography – diving equipped with
waterproof camera and a appropriate light setup to
capture the view and the moments underwater.
 Water Aerobics – it is a form of exercise where
aerobics are performed in a shallow water. The
water supports the body and reduces the risk of
injury to the muscles and joints, prevents over-
heating of the body and very safe and simple. It is
good form of work-out for everybody.
 Free Diving – is training your body for long spells
underwater without the use of any diving
equipment. It’s all about holding your breath
underwater and exploring the world underwater.
The goal is to challenge oneself and test your
limits at your best.
 Parasailing – is a parachute that is specially
designed to be towed behind the boat. You can
enjoy the breathtaking view of the water and
horizon with a fun-filled ride.
 Scuba Diving – a type of underwater diving using a
scuba set that generally consists of an air hose,
mouthpiece, regulator, harness, back plate, and an
air tank to breathe underwater. It is very popular
because of many reasons that includes
recreational, scientific, commercial, professional,
and public service.
 Barefoot Skiing – it is just using your barefoot in
skiing the water. Balance plays a crucial role in this
sport.
