RESEARCH GAP
This PLC based system can be used to replace the
conventional traffic control system. By including additional
input and output modules into the PLC system, this system
can be easily extended to dynamically managed the traffic
system of an entire city.
INTRODUCTION
OBJECTIVES
Safety is the primary objective-More than 40000
people die each years in traffic accidents.
Comfort-involves the physical characteristics of
vehicles and roadways.
Economy-Try to provide the best possible systems for
the money.
Environmental compatibility-Provide sustainable
transport system.
WHAT IS PLC
ADVANTAGES OF PLC
Reliability.
Flexibility in programming and reprogramming.
Cost effective for controlling complex systems.
Small physical size, shorter project time.
High speed of operation.
Ability to communicate with computer systems in the
plant.
Energy saving.
DISADVANTAGES OF PLC
PLC BASED
AUTOMATIC TRAFFIC SIGNAL CONTROL
A traffic light or traffic signal is a signaling device
positioned at a road intersection, pedestrian crossing, or
other location in order to indicate when it is safe to drive,
ride, or walk using an universal colour code.
A traffic light, traffic signal, or stop light is a signaling
device positioned at a road intersection, pedestrian crossing.
The traffic lights have given many benefits to all road
users. Besides reducing the number of accidents, it made the
traffic flow smoothly and possibly could save people time.
SIGNAL LIGHTS
MERITS
1.Provide for orderly movement of traffic.
2.Increase traffic-handling capacity of an intersection.
3.Reduce frequency and severity of certain types of
crashes, especially right-angle Collisions.
4. Provide for continuous movement of traffic at a definite
speed along a given route.
5.Interrupt heavy traffic at intervals to permit other
vehicles or pedestrians to cross
DEMERITS
1.Excessive delay.
2.Increased traffic congestion, air pollution and gasoline
consumption.
3.Disobedience of signals.
4.Increased use of less-adequate streets to avoid traffic
signals.
5.Increased frequency of crashes, especially rear-end
collisions
CONCLUSION
This method will help reduce congestion on roads and
would help in coping with accidents as the heavy
vehicles and light vehicles will be in different lanes.
Resultantly, a solution to a much critical problem of
traffic congestion and fatal accidents is possible using
this system. Thus the proposed system would make
our roads a safer place to travel.
