Definition: Process Analysis

Process Analysis is any part of the organization


that take input and transforms them into output
expected to be of greater value

Changes required to increased capacity

How much does the process cost


 Why does an organisation feel the need to
analyse its processes? There are basically
three possible reasons:
 In order to describe the processes (e.g. so as to
be able to set up job descriptions, manuals,
procedural guides or functional specifications
in the development of application software.
 In order to assure process management or
automation (e.g. the automatic approval of
invoices – see also workflow)
 In order to improve or optimise processes.
Process Flowcharting
  Process Flowchart, also known as the system
flow diagram, shows the relation between major
parts of a system. 
 Process flowcharts are used primarily in
process engineering, chemical industry and
heavy engineering industry where there is a
requirement of depicting a relationship between
major components. Process flow diagrams for
single or multiple units differ in their structure
and implementation.

 Both work in progress and finished goods

PROCESS PERFORMANCE MEASURES
 Operation time = Setup time + Run time
 Setup time is time required to prepare a machine
to make a particular item.
 Run time is time required to produce a batch of
parts.
 Throughput time- time that a unit spends actually
being worked on together with time spend
waiting in a queue.
 Efficiency- Actual output of the process/standard
 Throughput rate = 1/Cycle time
 Cycle time- Average time between completion
of units.
 Value added time- time in which useful work is
actually being done on the unit.
 Process velocity- Ratio of total throughput time
to the value added time.
 Productivity = output/input
 Utilization- Actual utilized time/Availiable
