Conventional Kelly and Rotary Table Drive
Rotary Table turns Master Bushing; Master Bushing turns Kelly Bushing; Kelly Bushing turns Kelly and Drill String System is simple and reliable but due to Kelly length (usually 12m/40 ft) only one joint of pipe can be added at a time; string cannot be rotated whilst being lifted

Benefits of a Top Drive:
