The "Three Ps" of Effective Time
Management
Developed by Andrew Berner

• Planning.
• Priorities.
• Procrastination ( postponing
actions )
Why do we procrastinate?
Don’t know where to start.
To avoid an unpleasant task.
We’re afraid to fail.
Waiting for more information.
You may think if you put it off someone
else will do it.
You’re over-committed.
Time Management Tips
1.) Monitor your time
If you feel like you don’t have enough time,
spend a few days monitoring your time to
see exactly how it is spent.
Make a daily to-do list
2.) be flexible
3.) Always leave some free-time for some
last-minute additions
Time Management Tips
3.) Use a planner
a planner can be an effective and easy way to help you
organize your time
look at a number of different kinds of planners before you
select one- some will help you more than others
choose one that is easy to carry with you
commit to checking/updating it daily
try to include your daily to-do list in your plan
Time Management Tips
4.) Learn to say ‘no’
Examples of good ways to say “no”
Instead of: “I really should study”, say “You
caught me in the middle of something
important, I’ll call you later.”
“I can’t go the movies tonight, but I can go on
Saturday.”
“Before I say yes, let me check my planner and
get back to you.”
Time Management Tips

5)Use a calendar- Keep a monthly calendar so you can

make long term plans. Include all academic,
extracurricular, and family activities.
6)Review/Revise- Look over your schedule regularly
(perhaps with a friend or teacher) and note the areas
where you are successful and those areas you need to
work on.
7) Time for you- Be sure to include leisure time activities
(reading for pleasure, watching tv, listening to music,
talking on the telephone) in your daily schedule.
