HADITH: 1:604
Narrator Malik: ´Pray as you have seen me praying and when it is the time for the prayer one of you should pronounce the Adhan and the oldest of you should lead the prayer.µ

´When you have finished As-salah, remember Allah standing, sitting down, and lying down on your sides, but when you are free from danger, perform As-Salat. Verily, as-Salat is enjoined on the believers at fixed hoursµ. (103) An-Nisa·

"Salah" is an Arabic word whose basic meaning is "connection". In its English usage the reference of the word is almost always confined to the obligatory prayer.  Translating "salah" as "prayer" is not usually considered precise enough, as "prayer" can indicate several different ways of relating to God. In the past salah has been called ´the contact prayerµ, ´the obligatory prayerµ, ´the formal prayerµ, and so on, but normal academic practice in English is now to refer to the prayer by the Arabic term.

.THE VIRTUES OF SALAH  It brings us close to Allah and reminds us of our duty to Him.  It makes us concious of His presence  It makes us love Him and fear him  It trains us and makes us disciplined  It enables us to obey Him  We receive His help and blessings through Salah  It keeps us on the right path.

THE VIRTUES OF SALAH  It saves us from disobedience and from evil things  It builds our character and develops a steady and sound personality  It makes us clean and healthy. . it also enables us to lead prper lives  It makes us sincere Muslims and true servants of Allah  It relieves anxiety and stress.

There he alighted. the progenitor of mankind. the archangel. It was opened and he saw Adam (peace be upon him). . The Prophet (SAW) saluted him and he welcomed him and expressed his faith in Muhammad (SAW) Prophethood. He saw the souls of martyrs on his right and those of the wretched on his left.  When they reached the first heaven Jibraeel (alaiyhis salaam) asked the guardian angel to open the door of heaven.T H E S TO RY O F S A L A H ( I S R A· & MI·RAJ)  The Messenger of Allâh (SAW) was carried in body from the Sacred Mosque in Makkah to the Distant Mosque in Jerusalem on a horse called Al-Buraq in the company of Jibraeel (alaiyhis salaam). After that Jibraeel (alaiyhis salaam) took him to the heavens on the same horse. tethered the horse to a ring in the gate of the Mosque and led the Prophets in prayer.

Then he was carried to the fifth heaven where he met the Prophet Harun (SAW) and saluted him. The latter returned the salutation and expressed faith in his Prophethood. . welcomed him and expressed their faith in his Prophethood. Prophet Idris (SAW) returned the salutation and expressed faith in his Prophethood.T H E S TO RY O F S A L A H ( I S R A· & MI·RAJ)  Jibraeel (alaiyhis salaam) then ascended with the Prophet (SAW) to the second heaven. He returned the salutation. in the company of Jibraeel (alaiyhis salaam) then reached the fourth heaven where he met the Prophet Idris (SAW) and saluted him. asked for opening the gate and there he saw and saluted Isa and Yehia (SAW).  Then they reached the third heaven where they saw Yusuf (SAW) and saluted him.  The Prophet (SAW). The latter welcomed the Prophet (SAW) and expressed faith in his Prophethood.

The latter returned the salutation and expressed faith in his Prophethood. Musa(SAW) answered that he was weeping because he witnessed a man sent after him as a Messenger (Muhammad) who was able to lead more of his people to the Paradise than he himself did. Our prophet Muhammad (SAW) on leaving. so that the angels who once encompassed it would not have their turn again till the Resurrection]. The ka·ba for those who are in the heavens) which is like the Ka'bah (Sacred House) encompassed daily by seventy thousand angels.  Then he was carried to Sidrat-al-Muntaha (the remotest lote tree) and was shown Al-Bait-alMa·mûr [(i.  Then Prophet Muhammad (SAW) reached the seventh heaven and met Ibrahim (SAW) and saluted him. He asked about the reason.

´Yes.T H E S TO RY O F S A L A H ( I S R A· & MI·RAJ)  He was then presented to the Divine Presence and experienced the thrill of witnessing the Divine Glory and Manifestation at the closest possible propinquity. Jibraeel (alaiyhis salaam) nodded. he spoke to Musa (SAW) that his followers had been enjoined to pray fifty times a day. There the Lord revealed unto His servant that which He revealed. Glory is to Him. if you desire. . and ordained fifty daily prayers for him.µ and ascended wih him to the Presence of Allâh. made a reduction of ten prayers. The All-Mighty Allâh. He then descended and reported that to Musa (SAW) who again urged him to request for a further reduction.µ The Prophet (SAW) turned to Jibraeel (alaiyhis salaam) as if holding counsel with him. Go back to Allah and ask for a remission in number. On his return. Musa (SAW) addressing the Prophet (SAW) said: ´Your followers cannot perform so many prayers.

but he said: ´I feel ashamed now of repeatedly asking my Lord for reduction. a Caller was heard saying: ´I have imposed My Ordinance and alleviated the burden of My servants.T H E S TO RY O F S A L A H ( I S R A· & MI·RAJ)  Muhammad (SAW) once more begged his Lord to reduce the number still further. Musa (SAW) again asked him to implore for more reduction.µ .µ  When Muhammad (SAW) went farther. I accept and resign to His Will. He went again and again in the Presence of Allâh at the suggestion of Musa (SAW) for reduction in the number of prayers till these were reduced to five only.

Put your right hand over your left hand and left wrist. Turn Face to Makkah (Qibla) 3. Pronounce ´Takbirat Al Ihramµ 4.STEPS TO PERFORM SALAH 1. Bow in Ruku raising your hands up to the level of your shoulders or ears while saying ´Allahu Akbarµ then bend down making your head and back on one level and putting your hands with fingers spread on your knees.STEPS TO PERFORM SALAH 6. Then the Fatiha and a short Sura from the Holy Quran. . Recite the opening supplication. 7.

µ (S:6)  The Prophet (PBUH) saidµ ´Salah without ablution is invalid. when ye prepare for salah.FIRST THING FIRST ABLUTION (WUDDU·)  Perform completely the ablution. wash your faces and your hands (and arms) to the elbows. adopting the method commanded by Allah in the Quran:  ´O ye who believe. rub your heads (with water) your feet to the ankles.µ .

the worshipper in all cases should not pronounce his intention openly. Pronouncing the intention for prayer in audible voice is a heresy and an illicit action.QIBLA  To turn one·s face and whole body towards the Ka·aba (Qibla). Thus. intending by heart to perform the prayer which he wants to fulfill. . because neither the Prophet (PBUH). nor his companions used to utter the intention for salah. The Holy House at Makkah. whether it is an obligatory salah or a supererogatory salah.

" ." This supplication means: "O Allah. "Allahumma bald bayni wa bayena khatayaya kama boadta bayena al-mashriki wal maghribi. snow and hail. O Allah.. cleanse me of my sins as the white rope is cleansed from dirt. O Allah.OPENING SUPPLICATION  After you say Takbirat Al-Ihram you may say: 1. wash off my sins with water. Allahumma igysilniy min khatayaya bilmai wathalgi walbarad. Allahumma naqqiniy min khatayaya kama yonaqa al thawbo alabyndo min aldans. separate me from my sins as You have separated the east and west.

(PBUH) said: ´Prayer without reciting the Fatiha is invalidµ. He is advised to recite verses from medium size Suras of the Quran in the Duhr (Noon). Asr (late afternoon). and whispers it in inaudible salahs. he has the choice in Maghrib Salah.RECITING OPENING AND FA T I H A  To put one·s right hand over his left hand and left wrist. and Isha (night) Salahs.  The worshipper recites Suratul Fatiha and says: ´Aouzo billah min alshaytani rragimµ. And recites a passage from the long Suras in Fajr (Morning Salah.  The worshipper should say ´Ameenµ loudly if the salah is said loudly. Prophet Mohammed. . and put them both over his chest. Then says: ´Bism illahi Rahmani Raheemµ and recites the Fatiha (The opening Sura of the glorious Quran). as the prophet (PBUH) used to do.

RAQA  Then. the worshipper bows in ´Raqaµ raising his hands up to the level of his shoulders or ears while saying ´Allahu Akbarµ then bends down. The worshipper should feel serenity and tranquility while bowing. making his head and back on one level and putting his hands with the fingers spread on his knees. he should say thrice at least ´Subhana Rabbiayl A·zimµ .

RAISE AFTER RAQA To raise one·s head up from bowing. in case of being Imam or praying alone: ´Sami·a Allahu liman hamidahµ while returning in the standing position. he should say: ´Rabbana wa laka al hamdµ. .

. both hands.SUJUD  To prostrate saying ´Allahu Akbarµ. the worshipper should use these seven organs: The forhead. Then he should say thrice or more ´Subhana Rabbiyal A·alaµ. if it is not then he can do the other way. the nose. They all should touch the ground.  In prostration. both knees and the internal parts of the toes. He should touch the ground with his knees before touching it with his hands. if that is possible.

and says: ´O my Lord. his hands on his thighs and knees. keeping his right foot erected. .JOULUS (SITTING) AFTER SUJUD  Worshipper should raise his head from prostration saying: ´Allahu Akbarµ and lays his left foot Jlat on the ground and sits upon it.µ the worshipper should feel tranquility during this pause. forgive me.

.SECOND SUJUD  To prostrate again saying ´Allahu Akbarµ and repeating during his prostration what he did and said in the first prostration.

Asr. Maghrib and Isha Salah.µ to: abdoho wa raswulohµ and slightly return it previous position after he had finished saying it. .TA S H A H U D A N D F I N I S H I N G  There are two Tashahud. the first one is called ´First Tashahudµ which is said after the first two Raqas in the Duhr.  The person says the Tashahud and raise the index finger of the right hand while readingµ Ash-hadu«.

and clench all the fingers of his right hand point with the finger adjacent to the thumb towards the qibla and fix his sight on it.  Once should get up from the second Sujud by saying ´Allahu Akbarµ then one should sit while putting his left palm on his left knee.  Worshiper will do this in both Tashahud.TA S H A H U D A N D F I N I S H I N G  By this stage the first Raqa is finished.  Second Raqa: the second Raqa is just like the first Raga and here are some good notes for prayers for the 5 day prayers. .

. Asr.TASHAHUD AND FINISHING  After saying the first Tashahud in the Duhr. Maghrib and Isha salah one is expected to go up again to continue the rest of the Raqas which are just like the Raqa described before.

Maghrib. .TASHAHUD AND FINISHING  In the last Raqa of each Salah (Fajr. Duhr. Isha). he gets up from the second Sujda saying ´Allah Akbarµ and sit like the first Tashahud and say the second Tashahud. Asr.

END  One should salute to his right saying: ´Assalamu alai kum wa rahmatu Allahµ. then salute to his left and says: ´Assalamu alai kum wa rahmatu Allahµ. .  This means: Peace be on you and the mercy of Allah.
