In 1937 Airline catering business began at Hoover Field
(currently site of the Pentagon). The division is named
"In-Flite Catering" and served Capital, Eastern, and
American Airlines.

The 1st Hot Shoppes cafeteria was established at McLean Gardens,
Washington DC. (1955)

Marriott's Highway Division had open several Hot Shoppes on the New
Jersey Turnpike. (1957 )
In 1964 J.W. Marriott, Jr. was honored as President of the Marriott
Foundation inc..
The Marriott opened its 1st hotel on Twin Bridges Motor Hotel with
365-room, in Arlington ,Virginia. (1957)

In 1967  Corporate name was changed from “Hot Shoppes”, Inc., to


Marriott Corporation.
The company opens two theme parks, both called "Great
America," located in Santa Clara, California, and Gurnee,
Illinois. (1976)

Two new corporate headquarters was built in Bethesda, Maryland ,in


1979

J. Willard Marriott, Sr., Passes away in 1985. And the Marriott
Distribution Center was opened in Savage, Maryland.

After the death of J. Willard Marriott Sr. of the Marriott


Corporation.inc (1985)

J. Willard Marriott Jr. acquired Residence Inn Company , In


1987 and he entered the lower-moderate lodging segment
with Fairfield Inn. And from here the actual journey started
when he acquired Residence Inn and the Fairfield.
“Your home away from home”
The Residence Inn is credited with popularize "extended stay"
concept. The chain was launched in 1975 in Wichita, Kansas by Jack
DeBoer, and was acquired by Marriott Corporation in 1987. Jack
DeBoer had jumped back in the Extended Stay market developing a
concept called Value Place.

(Residence Inn) brand's slogan is Your home away from home. It


was the first extended-stay brand in the United States, and was a key
player in launching the concept of a "suite" in a hotel.

Residence Inn is an extended-stay hotel brand owned by Marriott


International, Inc.
PROPERTY and SERVICES
The usual appearance of a Residence Inn is a main building,
called the "Gatehouse," which houses the front desk, a
common area for meal service, an on-site coin operated
laundry, a swimming pool and exercise room. Often there
are several out-buildings similar to condo or apartment
.complexes. Most have interior corridors

Residence Inns typically feature a complimentary hot


breakfast in the morning and a free light dinner or snack
reception on weekday evenings, Monday through Thursday.
CONTRIBUTION TO THE INDUSTRY
The Marriott operates in five business segments: North American Full-
Service Lodging, North American Limited-Service Lodging,
International Lodging, Luxury Lodging and Timeshare. The Residence
Inn falls under the North American Limited-Service Lodging segment of
the umbrella-company.
The Marriott also own the worldwide brand standard Marriott Bed,
consisting of six goose down feather pillows, a luxury mattress with
mattress topper, and Egyptian cotton sheets. The Marriott Bed is
designed to appeal to worldwide travelers “who will know what to
expect when they turn in at a Marriott Hotel”

In contrast to Marriott's other extended-stay brand, the low-cost


TownePlace Suites, Residence Inn competes in the upper moderate to
low upscale segment, along with InterContinental's Staybridge Suites,
Hyatt's Summerfield Suites, and Homewood Suites by Hilton.
ACHIVEMENTS
By December 2005, there were 482 hotels and resorts
operating under Marriott International, Inc which is the
parent company of Residence Inn the brand of the same.
Marriott added more than 24,000 rooms and timeshare
units in 2006, bringing the global system to 2,632 hotels and
timeshare units to (484,690rooms).
There are over 2,300 restaurants at Marriott hotels
throughout the U.S and even more than that i.e. in their
excellent services like Suites & Spa.
They even specialize with the best Hospitality and food
service, Around the globe. And are now going to open their
Franchise in India till 2010, At every
Metropolitan cities.

foundation and the 50th anniversary of their
