The company consequently shifted to motorcycle production in 1923. BMW began building motorcycle engines and then motorcycles after World War I. Its motorcycle brand is now known as BMW Motorrad. Their first successful motorcycle Outsold their biggest competitor Mercedes for the 1st time in 1990. In 2000, their revenues exceeded USD 3.03 billion for the 1st time. Established a new plant in Leipzig area of Germany in 2005 . They were the 1st European company to establish a plant in Japan. Invested more than USD 1.3 billion

New sales volume record for BMW Motorcycles in 2007 BMW Motorcycles also succeeded in recording a new sales volume high in 2007. After surpassing the 100,000 mark for the first time in the previous year, the Motorcycles segment continued to grow and recorded a sales volume of 102,467 units (2006: 100,064/+2.4%) in 2007.

The company produces and markets a varied range of higher end sporty cars and motorcycles. It also operates an aircraft engine division under the brand name of Rolls Royce. Got MINI and ROLLS-ROYCE by its merger failure. Already well settled in American and European market expanding in Asian market like India and China.
