PATIENT MONITORING SYSTEM

OBJECTIVE OF PROJECT
It is a working model which incorporates sensors to measure parameters like body temperature, heart beat rate, breathing rate Automatically transfer patients condition to mobile number (of a doctor) GSM technology is used for transmitting of all parameters to the mobile phone

SENSORS USED
Heart-beat Sensor Temperature Sensor

Heart-beat Sensor
A LED is used to transmit light through the skin and at the other side a LDR is used to detect the varying light

Breatho-Meter
IR sensor, PIN photodiode and Op-amp is used as comparator whose output is fed to the microcontroller

Temperature Sensor
Thermistor as a temperature sensor Output of the temperature sensor is further connected to the ADC 0804

LCD DISPLAY

GSM MODEM
A GSM modem (SIMCOM SIM300) It works on AT commands MAX 232 converts TTL to AT commands and Vice-Versa RS 232 serial communication port is used for communication of GSM Modem with MAX 232

RS 232

MAX232 is an integrated circuit that converts signals from an RS-232 serial port to signals suitable for use in TTL compatible digital logic circuits MAX232 is a dual driver/receiver and typically converts the RX, TX, CTS and RTS signals

AT(ATTENTION) COMMANDS
The dial up and wireless MODEMs need AT commands to interact with a computer or microcontroller Can be used to access following information and services: 1. Information and configuration pertaining to mobile device or MODEM and SIM card 2. SMS services. 3. MMS services. 4. Data and Voice link over mobile network.

Logic of Coding
Same procedure is used for both Heart beat and Breath rate measurement A delay function (which runs for 1 min) is called under which a counter is incremented according to the signal from sensor After one minute the counter readings are displayed on LCD and same data is send to the Mobile no.

CONCLUSION
PMS measures different parameter of a patient namely heart rate, temperature , breathing rate The device is compact and light weight and since GSM technology is used the doctor can be alerted about the patient irrespective of location of doctor

Future Prospects
PMS can further be extended by incorporating measurement of parameters like blood pressure, blood analysis, central venous pressure It could also be realized in such way that the monitoring device stores all the data and applications needing data connected directly to the monitoring device The detection of instrument failure without sounding the alarm
