ANU AGA

Anu Aga is an Indian businesswoman and social worker, who led Thermax Ltd., the Rs 3246-crore energy and environment engineering major, as its chairperson 19962004.[1] She had figured among the eight richest Indian women. After retiring from Thermax, she took to social work, and 2010 was awarded the Padma Shri (Social Work) by Govt. of India [4]

Early life and education


Anu Aga was born on 3 August 1942 in an upper middle-class Parsi family in Mumbai. She did her B.A. in Economics from St Xavier's College, Mumbai,[5] and post graduation in medical and psychiatric social work from the prestigious Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai. She had also been a Fulbright Scholar and studied in the United States for four months. From her childhood she had an intention to be self-independent and also to reach a certain height in her life. With this end in view she initiated her industry career in Thermax in the year 1985. By means of sheer perseverance, zeal and exemplary hard work

Career
Anu started her career in Thermax in 1985 and later headed its human resources division, 1991 to 1996, when after the death of husband, Rohinton Aga, she took as Chairperson, Thermax, finally retiring in 2004 succeeded by her daughter and company vicechairperson, Meher Pudumjee. Anu has since remained on company's Board of Directors,[2] and involved with social work.

Anu Aga has been very active in various national and local associations like Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) and was the first woman Chairperson of CII's Western Region. She has written extensively and given talks on the subjects of women empowerment, corporate governance, valuebased management and on corporate social responsibility.
Not only this, but also she has been to advocate several organizations engaged in the promotion of education, above all of the underprivileged children from slums. With the help of a Mumbai based NGO called Akanksha, 21 centres have been opened in Pune for the slum children. Currently she is involved with several NGOs. She is keenly involved in the causes of communal harmony and human rights, especially women and children.

According to women Entrepreneur Anu Aga C.E.O Thermax Industries Ltd., Every woman has the potential to be an Entrepreneur and it can be developed through nurturing skills and ideas. According to her women in business attain success for their intelligence, efficiency, commitment and Honesty. But she said that women in our country have to earn an extra quality to consider the society and it's norms and values for the sake of business and added that although it is an added burden on them but this consideration helps them to stand beside the men as equals, however she feels that the big thirst for finance and knowing the Markets created among women need to be satisfied through taking necessary steps by all stakeholders including Banks and the Government
