Lijjat expanded as a cooperative system The first year, the organization's annual sales were Rs. 6196 The name Lijjat was chosen by the group for its products - by Dhirajben Ruparel The organization was named Shri Mahila Griha Udyog Lijjat Papad By 1962-63, its annual sales of papads touched Rs. 1.82 lakh

In July 1966, Lijjat registered itself as a society under the Societies Registration Act 1860 In September 1966, KVIC formally recognized Lijjat Flour mills (1975), printing division (1977) and polypropylene packing division (1978)

In 1980, the brand name Lijjat Lijjat started exporting its products Currently, Lijjat has branches in seventeen Indian states

With a view that Today, Lijjat is more than just a household name for 'papad' (India's most popular crispy bread). Started with a modest loan of Rs 80, the cooperative now has annual sales exceeding Rs 301 crore (Rs 3.1 billion). Miss.Jyoti Naik , president of SMGULP took initiative while leading in organising institute for the women with MAVIM. POLICIES OF THE CORPORATION: 1) will work as a institution for the economic development of women 2) for making the women economically stronger & self sufficient. 3) will be sole searching for self employment & group industries opportunities for women.

AWARDS :
The Institution has received an award from Khadi & Village Industries Commission as a "Best Village Industries Institution" for the period 1998-1999 to 2000-2001. In 1999, the Mumbai City felicitated Smt.Rukminiben B.Pawar, Lijjat President, as an outstanding woman in the field of social work

AWARDS :

On 6th September 2003, Jyoti Naik, President of SMGULP has received the Economic Times Award of "Businesswomen of the Year 2001-02 for Corporate Excellence". In January 2003 Lijjat received the award for 'Best Village Industries' at the hands of Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Atal Behari Vajpayee at New Delhi. In 2003, it also received the PHDCCI Brand Equity Award 2005.
