Announced on June 3, 2006 Different certification paths aimed at different job markets New topics on laptops, security, safety and communication and professionalism Two exams must still be passed to obtain certification:

A+ Essentials (220-601)
PLUS any of the three job-skills exams: 220-602 - IT Technician (Field Service Technician)

220-603 - Remote Support (Help Desk Technician)

220-604 - Depot Technician (Bench Technician)

CompTIA will retire current exams on December 31, 2006 for non-E2C (Education 2 Career) members and June 30, 2007 for E2C members.

However, Prometric and VUE will accept NetAcad discount coupons for current exams thru June 30, 2007.

IT Essentials I Course Design Update

IT Essentials I v4.0 -- single course divided into two parts First part of the course will align with CompTIA A+ Essentials exam objectives and have a final assessment Second part of the course will
be more hands-on and lab-based cover all three CompTIA job environment certification objectives have three comprehensive assessments

Instructors will have the flexibility to teach the course based on any or all of the certification exams
Development team looking at feasibility of using simulation tools for a laptop, printer, and scanner to keep equipment costs for course low
