Benefit of IP transport migration

Few full IP network planned / in deployment Smooth E2E evolution towards full IP of transport
architecture

MARKET VIEW

Stepped approach addressing first data traffic growth

with IuPS over IP & Hybrid Iub step.

Migrate all interfaces (Iub, Iu-CS, Iur) to IP in a second

 E2E QoS & reliability:

 CAPEX & OPEX savings:

BENEFITS

 Guaranteed thanks to MPLS/IP/Ethernet

 IP/Ethernet cost efficiency

IP-based UTRAN cost is much less than ATM-based UTRAN Pseudo-wire is used to transport ATM over IP (one IP
backbone) Prepares mobile operators effectively for a future evolution to native IP in the mobile network (HSPA+, LTE solution) Single IP network for the Transport Plane, the Control Plane, and the Operations and Maintenance Plane

Mobile business market share

Fixed business market share

3G in China : Three licenses China Mobile: TD-SCDMA China Telecom: Pursue CDMA2000 EV-DO path (however choose LTE for 4G) China Unicom: Choose 3G WCDMA
WCDMA vendor: Alcatel-Lucent, in fact Alcatel Shanghai Bell (ASB) WCDMA HSxPA product: last version with hybrid Iub & Iu-PS over IP Core network: Huaweis MSTP solution

How can the ALU win the contract? Procurement: ALU (ASB), Ericsson, Huawei, ZTE Each vendor did a trial China Unicom then made a choice

To win this contract, ALU must propose very low price (the same as the one proposed by Huawei) Consider the gain for the long term and from the support The following steps were taken to secure the deal .. Persuade customers Lobby customers Set reasonable price No ASB, ALU cannot win the contract due to political issue (local vendor)
