INTRODUCTION TO 4G
y

In this world of fast changing technology, the requirement for people to communicate and get connected with each other and have access to information regardless of their location has raised . The increasing demands and requirements for wireless communication systems have led to the need for a better technology. 3G deployed still they required 4G for integrating everything in same network and get real data rate

MAGIC in 4G M obile multimedia A nytime any-where, G lobal mobility support, I ntegrated wireless solution, and C ustomized personal service.

To achieve the goals of true broadband cellular service, the systems have to make the leap to a fourthgeneration (4G) network.

EVOLUTION OF MOBILE SERVICES

Mobile System Generations
y

First Generation (1G) mobile systems were designed to offer a single service, i.e., speech.

Second Generation (2G) mobile systems were also designed primarily to offer speech with a limited capability to offer data at low rates.

Second and half Generation(2.5G) is highly successful Enhancement to 2G on data service GSM and GPRS.

Mobile System Generations

y

Third Generation (3G) mobile systems are expected to offer high quality multimedia services and operate in different environments.

3G systems are referred to as y Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) in Europe and y International Mobile Telecommunications 2000 (IMT2000) worldwide. y Fourth Generation(4G) systems will interoperate with 2G and 3G systems, as well as with digital (broadband) broadcasting systems. In addition, 4G systems will be fully IP-based wireless Internet.

4G OVERVIEW
y

4G is intended to complement and replace the 3G systems, perhaps in 5 to 10 years. Accessing information anywhere, anytime, with a seamless connection to a wide range of information and services, and receiving a large volume of information, data, pictures, video, and so on, are the keys of the 4G infrastructures. The 4G infrastructures will consist of a set of various networks using IP as a common protocol so that users are in control because they will be able to choose every application and environment.

Key elements and Technologies of 4G

4G ARCHITECTURE
y

In 4G architecture, focus is on the aspect that multiple networks are able to function in such a way that interfaces are transparent to users and services. With the growing popularity of Internet, a shift is needed to switch over from circuit switched mode to packet switched mode of transmission. Assigns packets to virtual channels and then multiplexes it to access multiple physical channels.

Wireless networks and with wire line networks. Emergence of a true IP over the air technology. Highly efficient use of wireless spectrum and resources. Flexible and adaptive systems and networks.

APPLICATIONS OF 4G
y

These are called KILLER Applications as it is going to bring revolution in the internet world. x Video Conferencing, Global Roaming x Crisis management x Tele-geo processing applications x Tele-Medicine and Education x Virtual Presence High Speed Data Rate due to which a movie can be downloaded in 2 to 3 minutes.

ADVANTAGES OF 4G:
y y

High Speed: Data Rate of 100 Mbps for mobile and 1 Gbps while stationary Global Standard:- 4G will be a global standard that provides global mobility and service portability so that service provider will no longer be limited by single-system. Low cost: Access technologies, services and applications can unlimitedly be run through wireless backbone over wire-line backbone using IP address. Higher Bandwidth, More Security

KEY FEATURES OF 4G TECHNOLOGY

High usability: anytime, anywhere, and with any technology y Support for multimedia services at low transmission cost y Personalization y Integrated services

Strengths in 4G:
y

4G visions take into account installed base and past investments Strong position of telecommunications vendors expected in the marketplace. Faster data transmission and higher bit rate and bandwidth, allow more business applications and commercialization Has advantage for personalized multimedia communication tools .

Weakness and Threats in 4G:

Weakness: y No large user community for advanced mobile data applications yet y Not possible to offer full internet experience due to limited speed and bandwidth y Comparatively higher cost to use and deploy infrastructure compared fast mobile generation. Threats: y Faster rate of growth and developments in other region y squeezes the market competition in the mobile industry.

FUTURE OF 4G: 5G
y y

The idea of WWWW, World Wide Wireless Web, is started from 4G technologies. Thus, 5G should make an important difference and add more services and benefit to the world over 4G 5G should be a more intelligent technology that interconnects the entire world without limits.

As the history of mobile communications shows, attempts have been made to reduce a number of technologies to a single global standard. Projected 4G systems offer this promise of a standard that can be embraced worldwide through its key concept of integration. Future wireless networks will need to support diverse IP multimedia applications to allow sharing of resources among multiple users. There must be a low complexity of implementation and an efficient means of negotiation between the end users and the wireless infrastructure.
