Depth Gauges

y Depth gauges measure the depth of liquids and

powder in tanks.
y They use a variety of principles and produce outputs

in electrical and pneumatic forms.

y The type to use depends on the substance in the

tank.

Types of Depth Gauges

y The ultrasonic system reflects sound waves from the surface and determines the depth from the time taken to receive the reflected sound. y The electronic version uses a variety of electrical affects including conduction of the fluid and capacitance. y The pneumatic version bubbles air through the liquid and the pressure of the air is related to the depth. y A simple pressure gauge attached to a tank is also indicates the depth since depth is proportional to pressure.

EchoTREK for liquids : EchoSpan Two-Wire Ultrasonic Level Transmitter Model LU81/83/84 The transmitter is well suited for a wide range of corrosive, waste and slurry type media, and is broadly selected for atmospheric bulk storage, day tank and waste sump applications.

Specifications
Range Model : y LU81 : 8 to 16.4 (20 cm to 5 m) y LU83 : 8 to 26.2 (20 cm to 8 m) y LU84 : 12 to 32.8 (30 cm to 10 m) Display units y Inch, cm or percentage Supply voltage y 12- 28 VDC Loop resist y 500 Ohms @ 24 VDC Signal output y 4 - 20 mA, two wire Process temperature y F: -7 to 140 y C: -20 to 60

y Supply Voltage:

The transmitter power supply voltage should never exceed a maximum of 28 VDC. Flow line controllers and meters have built-in 24 VDC power supplies for use with the transmitter. Alternative controllers and/or power supplies with a minimum output of 12 VDC may also be used with the transmitter for calibration and/or operation.
y Factory Span:

All transmitter models are factory calibrated with :4 mA at their maximum range (tank empty) 20 mA at their minimum range (tank full)

Maximum Applied Range: The Individual or cumulative effects of agitation, vapor or foam can reduce the overall quality of signal return and shorten the maximum applied range of the transmitter.

CLARIFIER TANK

FILTER TANK LEVEL

WATER STORAGE TANK

y CLARIFIER:

In this instance level monitoring of the clarifier will help attain proper load balance.
y FILTER TANK LEVEL:

The clarification phase of water treatment, pre-filtered water passes from an inlet channel and onto a filtration bed. As it passes through the beds mediasand or anthracite in depth-filtration types; cloth or synthetic membranes in surface-filtration typesthe water is cleansed of its fine-grained suspended solids.
y WATER STORAGE TANK:

For reclaimed water ranges from small tanks for potable and service water use, to large, open or enclosed, reservoirs. Large capacity storage - most commonly in open reservoirs - is necessary for off-line storage of peak flows, flow-through in-line storage, and long term storage of seasonal flows that are discharged during alternate seasons.
