Surah al-Furqan 61-77

025.061Blessed is He Who made constellations in the skies, and placed therein a Lamp and a Moon giving light;

025.062And it is He Who made the Night and the Day to follow each other: for such as have the will to celebrate His praises or to show their gratitude.

025.063And the slaves of the Most Merciful are those who walk on the earth in humility, and when the ignorant address them, they say, "Peace!";

025.064Those who spend the night in adoration of their Lord prostrate and standing;

025.065 Those who say, "Our Lord! avert from us the Wrath of Hell, for its Wrath is indeed an affliction grievous,-

" 025.066Evil indeed is it as an abode, and as a place to rest in";

025.067Those who, when they spend, are not extravagant and not niggardly, but hold a just (balance) between those (extremes);

025.068 Those who invoke not, with Allah, any other god, nor slay such life as Allah has made sacred except for just cause, nor commit fornication; - and any that does this (not only) meets punishment.

025.069 the Penalty on the Day of Judgment will be doubled to him, and he will dwell therein in ignominy,-

025.070Unless he repents, believes, and works righteous deeds, for Allah will change the evil of such persons into good, and Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful,

025.071And whoever repents and does good has truly turned to Allah with an (acceptable) repentance;-

025.072Those who witness no falsehood, and, if they pass by futility, they pass by it with honourable (avoidance);

025.073Those who, when they are admonished with the Signs of their Lord, droop not down at them as if they were deaf or blind;

025.074And those who pray, "Our Lord! Grant unto us wives and offspring who will be the comfort of our eyes, and give us (the grace) to lead the righteous."

025.075Those are the ones who will be rewarded with the highest place in heaven, because of their patient constancy: therein shall they be met with salutations and peace,

025.076Dwelling therein;- how beautiful an abode and place of rest!

025.077Say (to the Rejecters): "My Lord is not uneasy because of you if ye call not on Him: But ye have indeed rejected (Him), and soon will come the inevitable (punishment)!"

y Self-confident, mature, forbearing; leave it for a better time.

There are two realities which we must fully grasp in order to be truly characterized with the noblest characteristic of humility. First and foremost is to come to truly know Allah s perfection, His abundant favors upon us and how we are fully dependent upon Him. Secondly, we have to come to know ourselves, where we come from and our numerous weaknesses and shortcomings.

073.020 Thy Lord doth know that thou stand forth (to prayer) nigh two-thirds of the night, or half the night, or a third of the night, and so doth a party of those with thee. And Allah determines the measure of the night and the day!

025.065 Those who say, "Our Lord! avert from us the suffering of Hell, for its Wrath is indeed an affliction grievous,-

025.066 Evil indeed is it as an abode, and a station

025.067 Those who, when they spend, are not extravagant and not niggardly, but hold a just (balance) between those (extremes);

025.068 Those who invoke not, with Allah, any other god, nor slay such life as Allah has made sacred except for just cause, nor commit fornication; - and any that does this (not only) meets punishment.
y

The foundation of sins, the small of them and the great, is three:
1- Shirk, associating partners with Allah (swt), which is the heart s attachment to other than Allah (swt). y 2- Dhulm, oppression and injustice, which is from obeying the furious rage in the hearts. y 3- Fawahish, indecency and illicit acts, which is from the strong desires and lusts.
y

The height of Shirk is to worship others besides Allah (swt). The height of rage is killing. The height of lusts is fornicating. This is why Allah (swt) has combined these three in one ayah. y These sins lead to each other. Associating partners with Allah (shirk) leads to oppression and injustice (dhulm) and immorality (fawahish), just as sincerity (ikhlas) and Oneness of Allah (tawheed) wipes them out. Imam ibn al-Qayyam
