In the context of the EPR-JPLAN 2010, ICAO is required to inform aircraft in flight about atmospheric releases of radioactive materials • Upon receiving notification of the release by IAEA on 11 March 2011, concerned ICAO States issued NEM, NOTAM, SIGMET, & SIGWX information

Lessons learned
• Need for improvement at ICAO level
• e.g. conferencing facilities, on-call emergency staff, development of an ICAO Emergency Response Plan to deal with events affecting air navigation (including radioactive events) • Improvement of SIGMET procedures and guidance
